HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Dear Church Family,
I read an interesting article entitled “Some Things Still
Work,” by Evangelist Jerry Drace, in the fall edition of SBC
Life. Simple, brief, and to the point, this article reminds us
that we don’t have to necessarily “re-invent” the wheel in
order to be effective for God’s glory. Sometimes, we just
need to do a really good job with the basics.
Drace noted: Some things-like prayer-still work. Some things-like biblical preaching-still work. Some things-like personal evangelism-still work. Some things-like
revivals-still work. Some things-like community outreach-still work. Some things
-like the Gospel-still work.
These are simple concepts for sure. But, think about what might happen if each
one of us really took them seriously. What would happen if we prayed like never
before? What would happen if we immersed ourselves in God’s Word? What
would happen if we earnestly desired for revival to come to ourselves as individuals, to our church, to our community, to our nation, and to our world? What
would happen if we all reached out into our community with freshness and a determination to see God do a great work? What would happen if we each shared
our story of how the Gospel changed our lives with everyone we meet?
We just might experience turnaround. We just might see God do what only He
can do. Think about the difference that would make. Drace is spot on, Some
things still work.

“Worship That Transforms”
from his blog article
Why do you worship? I have a disturbing
hunch that many of us “worship” because
the band is really hot, or the preacher is
phenomenal, or our friends are going to
be there. We worship because it makes us
feel better, and gives us a sense that God
cares for us. We worship because it inspires us and energizes us to make it
through the week until we can return for
another boost to keep us going.
But, if God commands us to worship,
I wonder if we can grasp what God is
hoping for from our worship? In truth,
it doesn’t take much to understand what
God longs for in worship, because the
Bible gives us so many glimpses. As the
apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:18,
“as we gaze on the Lord’s glory, so we
are transformed into that glory”.
God is in the business of transformation –
that’s the basic message of the Gospel.
And transformation is really the only way
we can judge how real and “effective”
our worship really is.

QUARTERLY
LEGACY
LUNCHEON
From time to time, I have an opportunity to “sub” for an Adult Bible Study class, here
and there… I have to say, it’s always such a blessing to be able to do this, but maybe
not for the reasons you’re thinking. Yes, I do love to prepare and teach a Bible study,
but more than anything, I love being a part of the fellowship of our ABS classes! To
me, it’s one of the greatest things we have going for us, here at Cinco Baptist – to be a
part of the fellowship of our Sunday morning “small group” classes!
To be able to share life events with one another, pray for one another, plan events
away from the church – even if it’s just a quick makeshift plan to all go to lunch
together that day – you name it, nothing beats the fellowship we enjoy in our ABS
classes!
I’d challenge everyone today to be “an encourager” in your classes! Nothing beats a
warm, welcoming word to each other on a Sunday morning, when you walk in that
classroom! And especially to visitors to your classes! Go out of your way to make
them feel welcome, accepted and informed/equipped to be a vital part of your ABS
class, so they will want to come back next week, as well!!
Even though there is an appointed “teacher/leader” of your class, we can all be an
integral part of the make-up of your class, so it will remain a healthy part of the
ministry that is our Adult Bible Study classes, here at Cinco Baptist!!
See ya Sunday morning! 
