assisted with the Nov. 4 general election.
Approximately 170 residents served as election
judges at Lakeville’s polling locations, many of
whom worked from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thanks to
each of them for their dedication.
Special thanks are also extended to the
churches, schools, and facilities that served as
polling places. Staff members at these facilities
graciously rearranged classes and programs to
accommodate the election process. Thanks to
all of the partners that help make the election
happen.

Utility rate increases proposed
The City Utility Division maintains the water system that supplies up to 20 million gallons of treated water
each day to residents and businesses. The City also manages the sanitary sewer system which is operated
by the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES). Water and sanitary sewer increases are
proposed for the coming year.
Water rate increases are primarily due to extensive water main replacements associated with street
reconstruction projects. This work is being done mainly in areas where surrounding soil has now corroded
water main. The sanitary sewer rate increases are primarily the result of major maintenance of the lift
stations and equipment replacements.
Residential account example:
On a typical home which uses 18,000 gallons during the winter quarter – water and sewer fees will increase
by about $3.13 per quarter.
Business account example:
For accounts using 45,000 gallons, water and sewer fees would increase by $7.84 per quarter.
Debt will be issued in order to lessen the water and sanitary rate impacts on utility customers. There are no
proposed rate changes for streetlights or surface water management fees. The City Council will consider
these proposed changes in fees at its regular meeting on Nov. 17. The rates will be effective after Feb. 1.

Fee Adjustments

Sensitivity to comparable markets are also taken into consideration in setting fees.
