Happy Halloween!!!
Some residents have
been asking all month
“Why do we celebrate Halloween?
How did Halloween
get started?” We expect that there might
be other inquiring
minds who want to
know. So this is
what we found out.
Halloween is one of
the oldest holidays
still celebrated today.
Halloween culture
can be traced back to
Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and
Northern Europe.
Roots lay in the feast
of Sambaing
(signifies “summers
end”) which was a
harvest festival with
huge sacred bonfires,
marking the end of
the Celtic Year and
beginning of a new
one. It was at this
time that they honored all those who
had died. Also
to ensure next
years crops
would be plentiful they put
out treats and
gifts. Later the
custom
evolved into trick-ortreating with the
wonder if some souls
might be tricksters

plained, “Well, the first Sunday, my gums were so sore it
hurt to talk. The second Sunday I accidentally grabbed
my wife’s dentures by mistake and found that I just
couldn’t stop talking.”
New Teeth
A preacher went to his dentist who told him that he had
very serious gum disease and
that the preacher would have
to have all his teeth pulled.
The preacher asked the dentist if he could still preach
with dentures and the dentist
assured him, he could, but he
needed to get used to his

Day of Beauty
On Monday October 20th, we received
a very special treat.. A day of pampering and to be treated like queens. Barbara Wheatley the Cosmetology Instructor and some of her students came
here to Stonehenge armed with a wide
array of different color nail polishes
and curling irons. We enjoyed being
pampered by the students who will
enter in the workforce in a few months.
It was truly wonderful to be
pampered while sharing stories with the
students.
We hope to schedule another day of
beauty in the future after all who would
not like to be pampered. Thank you
again to North Georgia Technical College Cosmetology Program.
Autumn
Autumn time is in the
air, leaves are falling
everywhere. Colors of
green, red, and gold tell
us it will soon be cold.
The air so crisp, fresh,
and new another
season that God
gives to you.

Grandma’s House by Minnie Sieg
Over the river and through the
woods, to Grandmother’s house
we go, but Grandma only had a
small creek for her boys to wade
in, and a few trees to shade the
front porch.
On Thanksgiving Day, the four
sons and their families all went
to the old country home of their
parents. As they opened the front
door, Grandma called “come in
the house”. This time, “the
house” meant the kitchen where
they found Grandma working at
the big old wood burning stove.
Soon, the dinner table was
loaded with all the good food
and when Grandma rang the
bell, her family filled the chairs
and Grandpa said a prayer of
thanks. The people all enjoyed

Thanksgiving Divorce
A man in Phoenix calls his son in New
York the day before Thanksgiving and
says, “I hate to ruin your day, but I
have to tell you that your mother and I
are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.”
“Pop, what are you talking about? The
son screams. We can’t stand the sight
of each other any longer,” the father
says. “We’re sick of each other, and
I’m sick of talking about this, so you
call your sister in Chicago and tell her”.
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who
explodes on the phone. “Like heck,
they’re getting divorced”, she shouts.
“I’ll take care of this”. She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her
father, “You are NOT getting divorced.

Turkey is the traditional dish for
the Thanksgiving feast. In the
US, about 280 million turkeys
are sold for the Thanksgiving
celebrations. There is no official
reason or declaration for the use
of turkey. They just happened to

Don’t do a single thing until I get there.
I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll
both be there tomorrow. Until then,
don’t do a thing. DO YOU HEAR
ME?” and hangs up. The old man
hangs up his phone and turns to his
wife. “Okay”, he says, “They’re coming for Thanksgiving and paying their
own way”.
The value of a Smile by Katherine Wells
It costs nothing, but creates good. It
enriches those who receive it without
impoverishing those who give it away.
It happens in a flash but the memory of
it can last forever. No one is so rich
that he can live without it. No one too
poor to feel rich when receiving it. A
smile creates happiness in a home, foster good will in business, and in the
counter sign of friends. It is rest to the
weary, daylight to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad, and nature’s best
antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be
bought, borrowed, or stolen for it is no
earthly good to anybody until it is
given away willingly. _Anonymous
Comedian Jerry Lewis calls humor a
“safety valve”. The people of the world
who have the ability to laugh at themselves are those who survive. Bob
Hope says that laughter has construction power. A laugh, he says, can transform almost unbearable tears into
something bearable, even hopeful.
Country humorist Jerry Clower says
“God doesn’t want his children to walk
around unhappy. I’m convinced there is
just one place where there is no laughter and that is hell. And I’ve made arrangements to miss hell. Don’t ever go
anywhere there isn’t someone who is
smiling.”
