WELCOME HIS EXCELLENCY, BISHOP BYRNE
Bishop Byrne, recently ordained auxiliary of the Archdiocese,
celebrates the 10:30AM Spanish Mass at Saint Peter's Church today.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2015
Parents desiring their children's First Communion should speak with
Father Oliver immediately. Only those families who have been regular
in Mass attendance, whose children have already been in catechesis for
a year, and who support the Parish, may make application.
YOUTH ENCOUNTER
The next meeting of our junior and senior high schoolers is scheduled for Friday 14
November 7:00PM at Coleman Catholic High School! (Parents: Take note!)
THANK YOU, MUSICIANS!
Our combined ensemble of instrumentalists and singers provided an
excellent program of music for the celebrations of All Saints' & All Souls'
Day Masses. The use of their talents in the service of our worship is one
of the great blessings of our parish!
SAINT PETER'S ACADEMY
Parents are reminded that children in grades 6 through 12 are offered
regular catechesis at 4:00PM every Wednesday. After a general gathering in
the Rectory, Father Oliver leads the senior group, while Mrs. Maria Davenport
conducts the middlers' class. Children are welcome at any point in the
course of the semester.
CAMP VERITAS
Thanks to the bottle & can returns brought by parishioners to the parish, we have raised
$564.45 for our parish Camp Veritas Scholarship Fund. Registration for Summer 2015
begins in early January and all money raised will be distributed to those children who let
the parish office know they are registering. So far we will have 3 counselors and 5
campers planning to attend next year’s sessions! Donations are still welcome!
SHOPPING FOR TWO
Saint Peter’s parishioners continue to be a generous source of supplies to
the Catholic Charities Food Pantry. Thank you for your donations and
commitment to “feeding the poor”. Please keep up the good work as we
head into the holiday season.
TODAY’S FEAST
The first basilica of Rome, a renovated palace of the Lateran family, was consecrated on
this date in 324 as the Church of the Most Holy Savior. Nearby communities of monks lent
it the name of Saint John. Saint John Lateran is the Pope’s cathedral. Fire and earthquake
have repeatedly destroyed the structure; each time it has been rebuilt with care. “The
beauty and the harmony of churches, destined to render praise to God, invite us human
beings too, though limited and sinful, to convert ourselves to form a “cosmos”, a wellordered construction, in close communion with Jesus, who is the true Holy of Holies”
(Saint John Paul II). Magnificat, November 2014
CEMETERY
There are a number of cremation plots ($500) and a few full plots
($1000) still available at Saint Peter’s Cemetery. Please make your
burial arrangements in advance to ensure that a grave is available.
BENEDICT XVI ON THE THIRD SECRET OF FATIMA
"Beyond this great vision of the sufferings of the Pope, which we
can in substance refer to John Paul II, are indicated future
realities of the Church which are little by little developing and
revealing themselves. Thus, it is true that beyond the moment
indicated in the vision, it is spoken, it is seen, the necessity of a
passion of the Church that naturally is reflected in the person of
the Pope; but the Pope is in the Church, and therefore the
sufferings of the Church are what is announced...
"As for the novelty that we can discover today in this message,
it is that attacks on the Pope and the Church do not come only
from outside, but the sufferings of the Church come precisely
from within the Church, from sins that exist in the Church. This
has always been known, but today we see it in a really terrifying
way: that the greatest persecution of the Church does not come
from enemies outside, but arises from sin in the Church."
“YEAR OF THE CONSECRATED LIFE”
Beginning on 30 November, 2014 and ending 2 February 2016, Pope Francis has called
for a year of celebration honoring priests, brothers and sisters in religious orders.
The main purposes of the year will be evangelizing the vocation to consecrated life,
and the response of religious to “awaken the world” with their prophetic witness to
the poor and those in need.
THE MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS
Throughout November, Mass intentions for the dead are encouraged,
along with visits to a cemetery -- especially our own! -- and ferial
Masses are requiems. "Pray for the dead; and they will pray for you."
Since we will all be joining their company, let us hasten to befriend
them, and to assist them with our penances of fasting, prayer and
almsgiving. (Alms received during November are for the care of Saint
Peter's Cemetery.)
"We must pray without tiring,
for the salvation of mankind does not depend on material success;
nor on sciences that cloud the intellect.
Neither does it depend on arms and human industries,
but on Jesus alone.”
