Ramsey Ross
Northwest Florida State College
Ramsey H. Ross is the director of athletics for Northwest
Florida State College. Ross was
promoted to athletic director
in July 2012. Ross succeeded
former AD Mickey Englett, who
retired in April of that year after
22 years at the school.
Ross has been with the college since 2004 in a variety of
roles, including Coordinator of
Student Activities and Coordinator of Athletics, Health and
Fitness.
As athletic director, Ross
oversees, plans and manages all
athletic budgets, ensures that
NWFSC is in compliance with
NJCAA/FCSAA rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements,
represents NWFSC at Council of Athletic Affairs meetings and
verifies the eligibility of each student-athlete in every sport. Ross
also supervises and evaluates coaches and staff within the Athletic Department and meets with student-athletes regarding behavioral issues and potential disciplinary actions.
Ross graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1997. At
Florida State University, he earned a degree in business management in 2001 and a master’s degree in sports administration in
2003.

TODAY IN HISTORY
Theodore Dale “Ted” Rahe
1927-2014
Theodore Dale “Ted” Rahe, a man of faith, family and charity, died Oct. 30, 2014, after a brief illness. He
was 87. During his last days, Ted was encircled by his beloved family - Mary Ann, his wife of 62 years, and
their children and grandchildren.
He was born in Dyersville, Iowa, on Aug. 26, 1927, the eighth child of Henry and Kathryne (Wagner)
Rahe. He served in both the U.S. Navy and the Army, and he earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s
degree (in hospital administration) from the University of Iowa. After a career in medical administration,
Ted founded a condominium management company on the Emerald Coast and continued that work until he
fell ill.
Ted had been a champion of the disadvantaged since the mid ‘60s, when he chaired a committee in Jefferson County, La., that succeeded in getting a new juvenile detention center built. A supporter of finding
help for homeless families, he worked for many years with the Okaloosa/Walton Coalition on the Homeless and later with Fresh Start for Children and Families, in recent years reporting for duty each week at
the organization’s thrift store, Repeat Street. He was a board member or volunteer with more than a dozen
organizations, including serving as board president of White Sands Manor Retirement Home, Serra Club
of Okaloosa County and Fort Walton Beach Rotary Club. He was a member of Rotary for more than 50
years with 38 years of perfect attendance. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He met Mary Ann Walsh in high school and courted her, most memorably, on a one-horse sleigh ride.
They reconnected one summer during college while performing in a theater production of The Winslow
Boy. They were married in 1952 and raised their six children together. Their lives were colored by Ted’s
adventuresome spirit, which included a love of horses, sailing, tennis and the outdoors.
In addition to his wife, Ted is survived by his children, Elizabeth Copeland (Dennis), Katie Belew (Doug),
Matthew Rahe, Mary Theresa Rahe, and Serra Abel (Gregg); grandchildren, Theodore Copeland, Nicholas Copeland, Daniel Belew, David Belew, Isabel Kenney, Lauren Abel and Sam Abel; sister, Esther Kofron;
brothers, Norm Rahe and Hank Rahe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son,
Theodore John Rahe; his parents; and four siblings, Beatrice Rahe, Marguerite Thornton, James Rahe and
Marian Teahen.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fort Walton
Beach, with a rosary at 10 a.m. The family requests that donations be sent to Fresh Start for Children &
Families or Emerald Coast Hospice.
Expressions of love and sympathy may be viewed online at www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com.
Obituary reprinted from the Northwest Florida Daily News
On this day in 1968, winning one of the closest elections in U.S. history, Republican challenger Richard Nixon defeats
Vice President Hubert Humphrey. Because of the strong showing of third-party candidate George Wallace, neither Nixon
nor Humphrey received more than 50 percent of the popular vote; Nixon beat Humphrey by less than 500,000 votes.
On this day in 1994, George Foreman, age 45, becomes boxing’s oldest heavyweight champion when he defeats
26-year-old Michael Moorer in the 10th round of their WBA fight in Las Vegas. More than 12,000 spectators at the MGM
Grand Hotel watched Foreman dethrone Moorer, who went into the fight with a 35-0 record.
On this day in 2007, members of the Writers Guild of America go on strike in Los Angeles and New York after negotiations break down with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The strike caused production to shut
down on more than 60 TV shows and resulted in a loss of $3 billion, by some estimates, to the Los Angeles economy alone.
TODAY IN LOCAL HISTORY
On this day in 1958, U.S. Treasury check number 10 million issued at Eglin Air Force Base marked the
first time that a U.S. military base payroll was computed entirely by computer — a giant International Business
Machine Model 704 computer.
