CELEBRATION
2014
6 November 2014
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nau mai haere mai. Talofa lafa. Malo le lei.
Prize Giving
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for coming along and supporting our
students on Tuesday evening this week at our graduation ceremony. It was a wonderful
turnout of parents and caregivers and so very special having the whole school community
together for the first time since the earthquakes. The students conducted themselves in an
honourable fashion and it was an occasion where we could all feel very proud to belong to the
St Thomas’ community.
Following our final Mass on Wednesday this week, we farewelled our Year 13 boys with an
afternoon tea which was supplied by our Year 13 parents. This was organised by Margo
Wilson (Lincoln Harrison’s mum). Thank you to these parents for the delicious food and the
effort you all made to create what was a very special atmosphere for your boys on their last
day before exams. We will all follow their progress beyond St Thomas’ with pride.
We wish our seniors every success with the NCEA exams which start tomorrow (Friday).
Our junior prize giving (Years 7 – 10) is Friday 12 December in the College Hall from
9:30am to 12 noon. We look forward to greeting parents and celebrating student successes
again then.

Farewell
Tomorrow we farewell our IT technician, Eamon Reyn. Eamon has given loyal service to the
College for 9 years and has supported students and staff in their many and varied IT needs.
Eamon has also been an enthusiastic participant in wider school life in fundraising and in
trivial pursuit evenings for example. He is a highly knowledgeable man and has often been a
member of the winning team!
We will miss Eamon and wish him all the best for his future.
Teacher Only Afternoons
Please be aware that there will be no afternoon classes for junior students on two occasions
this term. A reminder about the teacher paid Union meeting on Tuesday 18 November which

On Tuesday 2 December, staff will be spending the afternoon working on new curriculum
development in line with my speech at prize giving and students will finish class also at

Rehearsals will be Tuesday evening and Thursday and Sunday afternoons and we will start
rehearsing first weekend of term 1.
I would like to audition after external exams. You will need to be
able to sing happy birthday and do a little bit of movement. If you
want to audition for the chorus you can do so in pairs or threes. If
you are auditioning for a main part you will also have to do a small
reading from the show.
Info about auditions will be out as soon as possible and I would like
to be able to inform you when they are via email. To get that info
could you please email me your details so I can get you into the
communication loop at [email protected]. Indication of interest
does not commit you to the show.

Dear Parents/Caregivers
This year, the Year 7 camp continues to run up at Hanmer Springs. All of the Year 7 boys
will head up to Hanmer in the last week of term 4 for 3 days of outdoor activities and
education outside of the classroom. This compulsory camp will give the boys the opportunity
to learn new skills, work together in a challenging environment, problem solve to achieve set
tasks and to grow as young men when presented with challenges. The cost of the camp covers
all costs for the 3 days. Any issues with payment please contact Jackie Redmond at the
school. The camp is supervised by staff and activities are expertly run by instructors from
Activity Hanmer. Next term the boys will receive medical booklets and information booklets
