Our Kapahaka group performed with distinction at this year’s cultural festival at Mahurangi College last
Saturday. The students performed exceedingly well thanks to their commitment to practise, the hard work and
commitment of our kaiako Viv Te Haara and Casey Wikiriwhi-Heta, and the dedication and encouragement of
family and whanau. If you missed the performance on Saturday you can view a recording of the performance
thanks to Mr L. The next performance of the kapahaka group will be after the powhiri to welcome the
Education Review Office review team on Monday 17 th of November at 10:00am.
Student Achievement Presentation
The planned Student Achievement Presentation from last Monday was postponed due to a lack of registrations.
We will however, look to reschedule this and give more notice to you all so that more can participate. Watch
this space.
Life Education Caravan
There has been lots of wonderful feedback about the Life Education programme delivered to students in the
last few days. The teacher of the programme has been very complimentary about our students and staff, and
our staff has been very complimentary about the programme he offers. Money well spent! The Life Education
co-ordinator even offered a free trial of the programme to some of our Junior Classes to see if we valued the
programme for that age-group enough to have them formally participate next year. The programme has been
so popular we are looking at ways to ensure more students have the opportunity to participate next year.
ASB Financial Literacy Programme
The Getwise, ASB Financial Literacy programme is visiting Wellsford School this week. Sessions were held
on Tuesday and Wednesday. Classes each had a 30-40 minute session from the presenters. Key financial
literacy concepts were woven throughout the programme and delivered through interactive activities and
games, inspiring personal stories and highly energetic participation.
GetWise is not about specific banking products and services and the programme is not designed to sell anything
to the audience. Topics covered include:
Learning where money comes from, why we have it and its value
An introduction to the golden rules of saving, and why saving is so important
Understanding how we earn money
Developing skills to cope with everyday financial situations that are relevant right now, like counting
money at the tuck shop or choices around earning, saving and spending pocket money
Identifying the difference between ‘wants’ and ‘needs’

Calling any Artists that love Clay and have
access to a kiln
Our Key Room Special Needs children have been having an
awesome time experimenting with clay making thumb pots,
insects and boats. We are hoping someone in the community,
who has a talent with clay, might be willing to come in and
help us. We especially would like to hear from you if you know
how to glaze and have access to a kiln.
If this is you, please contact Phil Hancock at school
or on [email protected]
THANKS to Mike Lindsay for organising the hardfill kindly donated by Drinnan Contractors, and for donating his
time to lay the concrete in the two bus pits in the old bus
garage. This area is being converted into a multipurpose room
to be used for various activites within our school.
Thanks Mike – greatly appreciated!
