The Monthly Newsletter of Community of Joy Lutheran Church
All Saints’ Sunday
God of all creation, we remember with love and gratitude those who
have gone before us. Their lives and shared journey with us are
much on our hearts and minds. We praise you for your abiding
presence from generation to generation. Strengthen us as we serve
you now on earth, so we may one day rejoice with all the saints in
your kingdom of light and peace. Amen.
October
We welcome back to COJ Pastor Anne Morawski from

Thanksgiving Dinner at COJ
Saturday, November 8th from 5:00—7:00 p.m.
Bring your family and join the COJ family for a full turkey
dinner. This is a "free will offering" event - no ticket needed! Enjoy
time together without the work of cooking. (You can also pick up a
"take away" dinner.)
Please sign the sign-up sheet in the Narthex so we know
how many turkeys to buy.... indicate if you will be
dining in, or if carry-out, or both!
What time is it? It’s STEWARDSHIP time!
That’s right, Community of Joy. It’s stewardship time. The next four weeks will be sort of like a
st
football game, if you will. Today we stand at the 1
and 10. We’ll have four
attempts to get our 10 (yards). In this case, the 10 being 10%. The Stewardship Team is
asking that for all of you who are still working toward your full 10% tithe, please consider
increasing your current level of giving by 10%.
The Stewardship Team is incredibly proud of you all – the people who make up
Community of Joy. You’ve shared your time, talents, and financial gifts. You’ve proven that
“Sharing Christ’s Love, Growing God’s Family” is the right mission statement for us. Over the
next four weeks, we’ll have stewardship ministry moments from four members of COJ, skits,
and Stewardship PIES. We’ll keep you updated and entertained. And we fervently hope that
we’ll give you fodder to prayerfully contemplate the gifts you’ve received from God and how
continue to give back.

Advocacy 2014
The 2014 Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-New Mexico
conference will be held on Saturday, November 8 at St. Timothy
Lutheran Church in Albuquerque (211 Jefferson NE 87108).
The conference will take place from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm and the cost is $15 per person,
including lunch. Session topics will include: advocacy basics, hunger, immigration and more.
Our featured speaker will be Pastor David Vasquez, author of several Bible studies from the
perspective of immigrants and refugees. Pastor Vasquez is currently the campus pastor at
Luther College and recently selected as the new president of Pacific School of Religion.
Plan now to attend and learn more about advocating for our many neighbors living in
poverty. To register or for more information, contact Ruth Hoffman at
[email protected] or 505.984.8005. Registration deadline: November 4.
Contact Jean Pratschner: [email protected]
for carpooling information
YOU CAN BE A HEAR-O!
Your old hearing aids can be put to good use by HEAR NOW,
an organization which refurbishes used hearing aids and
provides them to people who cannot afford them.
The HEAR NOW Program is a division of the Starkey Hearing
Foundation based in Minnesota.
Their website is
www.sotheworldmayhear.org if you want to check them out.
You may pick up a donation form from the wall by the
conference room and pack and ship them yourself for a tax
deduction or give them to Bill or Jean Potabi (first
service). They will take them to Bill’s audiologist, Dale, (of Sandia Hearing in the mall) and he
will forward them to the HEAR NOW Program.
Lutheran Family Services
Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is proud of its Lutheran
heritage in community service. We have been extending a
healing hand to people for 66 years. We believe that all
people, from the newborn infant to the most elderly person,
deserve to be valued in our community.
If you are interested in learning more about LFS or have questions, please contact
Tarrie Burnett at 505.933.7015 or at [email protected].

Aluminum Tabs for Ronald McDonald House
It must have been a l-o-o-n-g hot summer! Thanks to you,
our members who have been saving aluminum tabs so
consistently this past quarter, we were able to deliver 5
pounds of tabs to be passed along to a local recycler. This
recycler has made recycling these tabs a part of his
commitment to supporting the House. He donates double
the market value of the recycled tabs to the Ronald
McDonald House.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for people
who live more than 50 miles from Albuquerque to stay while
their child is treated in one of our local hospitals. They are
charged $15 per night and sometimes even that fee is
waived.
In the coming months, please try to save your aluminum pop tabs (also found on some pet
food and soup cans) and bring them into church. There is a cardboard Ronald McDonald
collection box on the table in the center of the carpeted area. You’ll be helping families in our
surrounding area who are dealing with medical and emotional challenges. And if you want to
recycle even further, Storehouse West can use your crushed aluminum soda cans to help
fund their services to our Sandoval County community.
Our next delivery date for the tabs will be early January.
