Exhibitors should carefully peruse the rules regarding entries, conditions, etc, and particularly the special class and section under which
they propose exhibiting, as these must be rigidly adhered to.
The Society will not be responsible for any accident, caused through or by an exhibitor and it shall be a condition of entry that each
exhibitor shall not hold the Society responsible and indemnify against any legal proceedings arising from such accident.

All entries to be on Official Entry Form and pre-entries in the hands of the Secretary by 5 p.m. 12th November unless
otherwise specified. Horse entries will be accepted on the day UNTIL 10 AM ONLY at double the pre-entry fee. NO
TELEPHONE ENTRIES. Entry fee(s) to accompany entry. All exhibits must be bona fide property of the exhibitor.
Cheques, Money Orders, Postal Notes are to be made payable to Clunes and District Agricultural Society Inc. PLEASE DO
NOT FORWARD CASH. Entries will only be returned if a stamped self addressed envelope is enclosed with entries.
Random swabbing may take place.
Entry Fees including Compulsory VASA levy must be paid at the time of lodging all entries and will not be returned.
Age of HORSES will be at 1st August and CATTLE at day of Show. Any infringement of these rules will disqualify the
exhibit.
Stallions will only be permitted to compete in the classes set down for them, and are to be shown with bit in mouth and must
be exhibited by persons 18 years and over only, with the exception of Shetland Pony Stallions which may be ridden by a
competent person to the satisfaction of the Committee..
No Judge shall be an exhibitor in the section(s) where he/she is judging.
The Judges may award a second or third prize, instead of a first or may withhold a prize altogether where the
exhibit/exhibits are not considered worthy.
Prizes are as stated in each section.
No appeal against the decision of the judge will be entertained unless made within half an hour after the prizes have been
awarded on the day of Show, and a deposit of $50 made, which will be forfeited if the Protest Committee thinks it frivolous.
Stewards to be made aware of all facts at the time.
Society reserves the right to refuse/reject any entry.
One or Two members of the Committee or Guests of the Society will attend each class judged as Stewards. It will be their
duty to see that no obstruction is offered to the Judges and that the space allotted to them is not encroached upon, to
communicate to the Secretary of the Horse Section any questions that may arise for consideration of the Committee.
Trophies can only be collected AFTER the Grand Parade.
Dogs MUST be on a SHORT lead at all times.
The Society will not be held responsible for any injury, loss or damage to competitors, spectators, equipment or property.
Exhibits and displays shall be accepted on this condition.
Members’ tickets can be obtained from the Secretary.
In the event of any section of the Show being cancelled due to adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances, no
money can be claimed by exhibitors, stallholders, etc.
EXHIBITORS AND STALLHOLDERS ARE TO PAY ADMISSION.
Prize money to be collected on Show Day, any money not collected on Show Day will be forfeited.
Novice means not having won a first prize competing in that class at any Agricultural Show or Gymkhana.
Intermediate means not having won a first prize competing in that class at an Australian Royal Show.
Proof of age must be produced on request.
Where applicable proof of Registration MUST be produced on request.
Judging will not be held up should classes clash.
Horses/Ponies may be measured at random or at the discretion of the Judge(s). Measuring stewards’ decision is final.
No competitor or his/her family shall approach a Judge with regard to a decision unless he/she first obtains permission from
the Ring Steward or Ring Master who may arrange an appointment with the Judge at a proper place and time. The Steward
shall remain present during this meeting.
Judges decision is final.
All foals must be haltered whilst on the Showgrounds.
Water will be provided in the Showgrounds for livestock and the working machinery, but exhibitors must supply their own
feed and fuel.
The Committee reserves the right to eject from the grounds (and forfeit entrance money) any persons or persons
conducting any game, table, stand or sideshow not approved by the Ground Managers. Playing or betting at any game or
pretended game of chance is strictly forbidden, any person doing so will be proceeded against according to law. Permits to
occupy space from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on day of Show.
The Society’s “Privacy Disclosure Statement” will be on display in the office on show day.

1. Open to all Thoroughbreds unraced or raced 4 years and over, over 14.2hh who are registered with RISA
(Racing Information Services Australia). Registration will be checked.
2. Racing name to be used where appropriate. When entering if name is different to racing name or if never raced,
please provide, Racing name, Brands, Colour & markings, microchip number, Life Number, Registration Certificate
number.
3. Qualifying classes will be judged ridden.
4. Once a qualifier is won, the horses cannot compete in other qualifiers.
5. All qualifying winners gain automatic entry in the Off the Track series final to be held at the 2015 VAS Ltd Saddle
Horse Championships of Saturday 7th-9th January 2015.
6. Riders to be 14 years and over on day of qualifying show.
7. To be judged as a good example of Thoroughbreds rather than riding horse/hunter types with the following to be
taken into consideration: Thoroughbred qualities, Confirmation, Manners, Paces and performance, injuries caused
through racing such as blemishes are allowed.

VAS LTD Good Hands Competition – FREE ENTRY
Conditions: Good Hands competitors shall be judged solely on their riding ability.
Mount, Saddle and Costume will not be taken into account. Special attention
will be paid to hands and seat, general management and control of the horse
or pony. Competitors must ride in an ordinary snaffle bit, single jointed in the
centre. The mouthpiece must be smooth and of one metal with or without
cavesson noseband. A gear check may take place. Straight bar snaffles, drop
noseband, whips and spurs are not allowed. Age of Rider is on the day of the
Show. Finals will be held at the 2014 VAS ltd Saddle Horse Championships.

Fleeces must not be of more than 12 months growth. ALL FLEECES, with the exception of Classes 9, 21 and 22, MUST
BE SHORN FROM SHEEP BRED BY THE EXHIBITOR and grazed under ordinary flock conditions. Exhibitor must be
prepared to sign a declaration to this effect.
Unskirted fleeces, including bellies (which must be left attached to the fleece), are to be sent in for Classes 1 to 10.
In classes 1 to 10, unattached pieces, bellies and locks will not be valued.
Classes 5 to 8 must not be from pure bred sheep.
A maximum number of 4 fleeces of each breed, from any one exhibitor for classes 9, 10, 20 & 21.
Wool will be skirted & weighed by the Stewards then classed & valued by the Judge.

1. The secretary has the right to alter, or place to the best advantage, wrong or incorrectly placed entries.
UNRUNG, incorrectly rung or marked birds will be automatically disqualified. The greatest care will be taken of
all birds exhibited, but the Clunes Agricultural Society Inc or the Maryborough Pigeon Fanciers Inc will not be
responsible for any accident, mistake loss or damage from whatever cause arising, the birds exhibited at the
sole risk of the exhibitors.
2. In all cases will be judged and awards will be made according to the Maryborough Pigeon Fanciers Inc rules
and regulations.
3. All birds entered must be vaccinated. A written declaration must be supplied with the entry form
4. JUNIORS – The Maryborough Pigeon Fanciers Inc defines a junior as one under 17 years of age. The junior
class schedule is the same as for seniors. It is most important that the entry form specifies that junior entries
are such or they will be put into senior classes. Juniors are not permitted to exhibit the same breed as a senior
exhibitor living at the same address as the junior. All juniors MUST pen their own birds.

VAS & SPOTLIGHT COMPETITIONS: No competitor can represent more than one society in a Group
Final in any one year, and no competitor can represent more than one Group in a State Final in any one
year. A person will not be permitted to win at more than one Show within the State in any one
Show Year. Persons not adhering to this rule will be required to forfeit or refund prize money. No
restriction on Group or State winners competing in subsequent years.

250g sultanas
250g chopped raisins
250g currants
125g chopped mixed peel
90g chopped red glace cherries
90g chopped blanched almonds
1/3 cup sherry or brandy
250g plain flour
60g self raising flour
4 large eggs
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
250g butter
250g soft brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon lemon essence or
finely grated lemon rind
1/2 teaspoon almond essence
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
HERE'S WHAT TO DO
1. Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour,
but preferably over night.
2. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one
at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly.
3. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon.
4. Place the mixture into a prepared tin 20 cm square, straight sided, square cornered tin, and bake in a slow
oven for approximately 3 1/2 - 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin.
5. Note: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3
pieces, Cherries into 4 - 6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3-4 pieces.

375g Mixed Fruit
1 teaspoon mixed spice
125g butter
½ cup sherry
2 tablespoons marmalade
1 cup plain flour

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
¾ cup brown sugar
½ cup water
½ teaspoon bicarbonate soda
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup self-raising flour
¼ teaspoon salt
HERE’S WHAT TO DO
Place the Mixed Fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter in a large saucepan and bring to the boil.
Simmer gently for 3 minutes, then remove from stove, add bicarbonate soda and allow to cool.
Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well.
Fold in the sifted dry ingredients then place in a greased and lined 20 cm round cake tin.
Bake in a moderately slow oven for 1½ hours, or until cooked when tested.
NOTE: Prizes / prize money may be collected from Homecrafts Office after 5 pm on Showday.
Prize money not collected on Showday will be forfeited.

SECTION ZC - VAS CARROT CAKE COMPETITION
Open to carrot cake enthusiasts everywhere
INGREDIENTS:
Olive oil, to grease
3 (about 350g) carrots
1 cup (150g) self-raising flour
1/2 cup (75g) plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (80g) brown sugar
1/2 cup (125ml) oil
1/2 cup (125ml) golden syrup
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
1/2 cup walnuts
METHOD:
1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Grease a 20cm (base) round cake pan lightly with oil, and line with
non-stick baking paper. Peel and grate the carrots, and set aside
2. Sift the flours, bicarbonate of soda and cinnamon into a large bowl
3. Put the brown sugar, oil, golden syrup, eggs and vanilla in a separate bowl. Use a balloon
whisk to mix until combined
4. Pour the oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Use a wooden spoon to stir gently until just
combined
5. Stir in the grated carrot and walnuts
6. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 1 hour. Set aside for 5 minutes, before turning
out onto a wire rack to cool completely
SECTION ZD - CARROT AND DATE MUFFINS
A competition for junior cake bakers under 18 on the day of their local show
INGREDIENTS:
2 ½ cups Self-raising flour
1 tablespoon orange marmalade
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup canola oil
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
3/4 cup orange juice
1/3 cup chopped pitted dates
1 cup reduced fat milk
1 cup coarsely grated carrot
METHOD:
1. Heat oven to 190C (moderately hot)
2. Line and spray a 12 hole muffin pan with round paper muffin cases – Classic white muffin cases size (35mm
Height x 90mm Wide x 50mm Base,
3. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; stir in dates, carrots. Then add the combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice
and milk. Mix until just combined
4. Spoon mixture evenly into muffin paper cases in muffin pan
5. Cook for 20 minutes, (to test muffins are cooked inserted cake skewer. If it comes out clean the muffins are
ready
6. Stand muffins in pan for 5 minutes before removing to cool

to commemorate the many wonderful cooks who support our show.
We are asking you to contribute both favourite and prize winning recipes and cooking
hints so the tradition can carry on for generations to come.

RED VELVET CAKE
(Recipe for Class Z 12)
Ingredients
2 cups plain flour, sifted
¼ cup cocoa powder
50 mls red food colouring
200 gms unsalted butter, melted
1 ½ cups caster sugar
2 eggs, lightly whisked
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon bi-carb soda
Cream Cheese Icing
250 gms cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
60 gms butter, softened
1 cup icing sugar, sifted
Method
1. Preheat oven to 170 o C. Line 18 x 80ml capacity muffin pans with paper cases. Sift flour, cocoa
powder and bi-carb soda into a bowl. Stir through the sugar. Whisk the buttermilk, butter, eggs,
vinegar and vanilla until combined. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture. Add the
buttermilk and stir until just combined. Stir in food colouring.
2. Divide the mixture among the lined pans. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
3. Use an electric beater to beat the cream cheese, icing sugar, extra butter and vanilla until smooth.
Spread on cooled cup cakes.
4. Plate of 4 to be presented for judging.
