Alberta Ski Team (AST) Selection Criteria for 2015/16 Team Size 24 athletes born 1996-1999 (12 males and 12 females) 6 athletes born in 1993-1995 (U23), for recognition Athlete Eligibility 1. Member in good standing of a registered CCA club 2. Alberta resident (defined as full time resident for 6 months prior to team selection date) 3. Holder of Alberta health care card 4. Holder of valid CCC licence 5. Born in 1993-1999 Nomination Acceptance Requirements 1. CCA athlete agreement signed by athlete, coach and parents (if athlete is under 18 years of age) 2. Athlete code of conduct signed by athlete 3. CCA athlete media form and medical form completed 4. Payment of AST fee Selection Criteria Athletes will be selected according to the following criteria: SC1. An athlete winning a medal at National Championships, or earning a position on the World Junior Championships or U23 World Championships team will be selected to the AST team. Athletes winning medals at Nationals or qualifying for World Junior/U23 championships teams will be selected ahead of AB Cup rankings. SC2. Alberta Cup aggregate points will be used for selection. Points will be accrued for selection consideration only when an athlete competes in their appropriate category as defined by CCC for their year of birth. Alberta Cup points will be used for selection of AST athletes based on the following formula: - Best 6 of 9 or 10 races (where there are 9 or 10 AB Cup races in a season) Best 5 of 7 or 8 races (where there are 7 or 8 AB Cup races in a season) Best 4 of 5 or 6 races (when there are 5 or 6 AB Cup races in a season) Best 3 of 3 or 4 races (when there are 3 or 4 AB Cup races in a season) Best 2 of 2 races (when there are 2 AB Cup races in a season) Best 1 of 1 race (when there is only 1 AB Cup race in a season) 11759 Groat Road - Edmonton, Alberta - T5M 3K6 Tel: (780) 415-1738 / Fax: (780) 427-0524 / [email protected] / www.xcountry.ab.net The following number of athletes will be nominated to the AST: Category during eligibility time frame (Oct. 2014 - April 2015) U23 – 1993-94 JrS M/W – 1995-96 JrC B/G – 1997-98 Juven. Where an athlete does not accept his/her position on the AST, the next ranked athletes will be offered the position. SC4. Force Majeure factors – athletes selected under SC4 will be in addition to, not to replace, athletes eligible under SC1, SC2, and SC3. “Force Majeure” means an unexpected event beyond the reasonable control of the athlete that crucially affects that athlete’s ability to compete (e.g. illness, injury, transportation breakdown, etc., with proper documentation included) and can be put forward as rationale for not having competed in or completed a selection race(s). Selection timeline Feb 1, 2015 – 2015-16 AST program published on the CCA website April 1, 2015 – AB Cup Aggregate points published on the CCA website. Invitations sent to nominated athletes by CCA April 15, 2015 – Athletes are required to accept or decline their selection to AST by notifying the CCA office in writing by email. April 16, 2015 – round two of AST athlete selections based on any openings created by athletes declining their nomination in the first round April 25 – any additional athletes selected to AST must inform the CCA office of their acceptance or decline to the AST May 1, 2015 – the AST is announced Nomination Process 1. Cross Country Alberta (CCA) will create the AST ranking list that identifies athletes winning medals at nationals, athletes who qualify for World Junior /U23 Championships Teams, and AB Cup points. 2. The Selection Committee will be made up of the CCA Technical Committee. 3. CCA will post the Alberta Cup point list for eligible athletes by April 1, 2015. 4. Eligible athletes will accept or decline their nominations by April 15, 2015. 5. Any additional athletes nominated to the AST must inform the CCA office of their acceptance or decline to the AST by the stated deadline in writing.
