FHSU also is looking to
extend what is already a
school record for MIAA wins
in a season, having surpassed
the four-win record equaled
in three different years,
including the previous two
under Brown.
“From when I signed here,
the plan was to make us a
family and get this school
into a winning program.
And I felt like the progress is
here,” Albert said. “I got to
do everything I can (to win),
because I know when I’m a
senior next year I’m going to
want the guys to do everything they can to help us win
our senior game. It’s very important. And these guys, they
helped establish this program
with winning seasons and
just getting everybody and
making this team a family. I
feel like everyone owes them
that.”

Tiger men suffer loss at
MIAA tourney

OLATHE — The Fort Hays
State University men’s soccer team fell in the semifinals
of the MIAA tournament
on Thursday, losing 2-0 to
third-seeded Lindenwood
University at Olathe’s College
Boulevard Activities Complex.
Second-seeded FHSU (115-3 overall) outshot LWU (106-3) for the match, 12-11, but
had to settle for just its fourth
shutout of the season and
second in as many matches.
The Tigers had defeated
LWU — which will play topseeded Northeastern State in
Saturday’s MIAA title match
— 8-0 on Sept. 25 and 2-1 on
Oct. 23.
FHSU will now await its
postseason fate, where it sits
in good position to receive a
berth to the NCAA Division
II tournament. The selection
show takes place at 7:30 p.m.
on Monday, the first round
getting underway on Nov. 20.
The FHSU women’s soccer team will play Southwest
Baptist tonight at 7 p.m.
in their MIAA tournament
semifinal game, also held in
Olathe. Chiefs will lose home game,
play in London in 2015
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (TNS)
— The Chiefs are headed to
London in 2015.
The club announced
Thursday it will play host to
the Detroit Lions on Nov. 1,
2015, in the NFL’s International Series at Wembley
Stadium — one of three NFL
games in the United Kingdom
next year. The game, which
will mark the first time the
Chiefs play overseas, will be
televised locally and nationally on Fox.
“It is an honor for Kansas
City to represent the NFL
on an international stage,”
Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a release. “We
are excited for the opportunity this creates for our fans,
our city and the global growth
of the Chiefs brand.”
Because the Chiefs are
the home team, they will only
play seven regular-season
games in 2015 at Arrowhead
Stadium, which recently
underwent a renovation
in which Jackson County
taxpayers contributed $250
million.
Donovan, speaking to
reporters Thursday, said
season-ticket holders would
only pay for nine games in
2015 — two preseason and
seven regular-season games
— as opposed to the usual
10.
A team spokesman said

FHSU has been relatively
successful against the run
this season, allowing 150.9
yards per game to rank fifth
in the MIAA. The Tigers
are fourth in total defense
at 366.2 yards per game.
MSSU is second in the
conference in third-down
conversions at 47.2 percent and second in time of
possession at more than 33
minutes a game.
With the Tigers also
bringing a run-heavy offense into Saturday’s game,
Brown expects to see the
type of game he remembers
from his playing days at
Pittsburg State.
“This is the way football
is supposed to be played. It’s
going to be smash mouth
football. It’s going to be run
football, just like it was back
in the old days,” Brown
said. “We got to dominate
the line of scrimmage and
do our jobs. You are going
to get tired of seeing the
same thing over and over
and over, but if you don’t
stay disciplined and do your

longer is wearing a sling as
he recovers from a broken left
collarbone.
“Nick has been great,”
Kelly said. “One thing about
Nick that I think I’ve always
admired is what his mind-set
is like. He has no control over
[the situation], so for him to
sit there and feel sorry for
himself, I don’t think you’re
ever going to get that out of
Nick. He’s talking about what
his rehabilitation schedule is
going to be and what he has
to do to put himself in a situation and how he can be a real
good teammate and support
Mark and Matt.”
