ROGER COVELESKIE
It’s that time of year again and you are invited to join us for our
Annual Arizona Hall of Fame Classic. Since its inception in 2011,
the Hall of Fame Shoot has become a fun and special event to
honor past Hall of Fame members and usher in the new.
This year we are happy to present Roger Coveleskie as our
2014 honoree. Roger is well known, not only to shooters and
clubs around Arizona, but nationally as well. His long list of impressive wins throughout the years is testament to his enduring
shooting skills and excellence.
The induction ceremony and festivities will follow Saturday’s
Hall of Fame Singles. Refreshments will be served, compliments
of ASTA. Please plan to join the fun and camaraderie with fellow shooters, friends and family.
The Zone Team Challenge continues as a friendly competition
between the Arizona Zones. Last year, we saw the Central
Zone topple the previously undefeated Northern Zone to claim
the Zone Team Champ title. The winning Zone team receives
$500 and each member receives a custom belt buckle to commemorate their achievement. Good luck to all Zone Challenge
teams this year! The individual resident High All Around winner
from each Zone is also awarded a beautiful buckle plus $100.
Please see the complete details and rules on Page 11.
Many thanks to the Arizona Youth Trapshooting Association for
again, making it possible to offer reduced entry fees to our resident Sub Junior and Junior shooters for all events during the
tournament.
Our appreciation and thanks to the Ben Avery Clay Target Center and the PDC Group for their hospitality. And, a special thank
you to all participants for their continued support of the Hall of
Fame Classic. See you there!
The ASTA Board of Directors

Roger Coveleskie
2014 Hall of Fame Inductee
Our 48th Enshrinee was born October 1, 1936 in the small Southeastern town of Midway, Ohio - almost, with a gun in his hand. He received his first 22 calibre rifle at the age of nine years and so began
his journey to keen marksmanship by providing his family with wild
game. Grandpa said “don’t shoot it if you won’t eat it” - so, he shot
whatever and the family ate it! He admits to not ever killing an owl or
a skunk -a good choice!
He graduated from St Clairsville High School in 1954 and immediately
headed for northeast Ohio to find employment, other than in the coal
mining industry.
Roger began his machinist career at Great Lakes Manufacturing in
Cleveland, OH where he served an apprenticeship in the aerospace
industry and machined parts for NASA, which are still on the moon.
He also had a hand in developing a Brake Coolant Pump for the Boeing 707 jet aircraft. General Electric in Cleveland was his next place
of employment where as a machinist, he worked as a boring mill operator.
While working in Cleveland, he met Barbara and they married on January 4, 1958. They were blessed with two daughters, Lynn and Nancy.
Lynn shares his enthusiasm for shooting as does granddaughter
Jenna, but not quite to the degree that Roger does. Additions to
Roger’s family include two sons-in-law, 3 grand-children, 3 step-grand
children and 4 step- great-grand kids.
Roger’s first registered shoot was in 1974 at the Cleveland Winchester Gun Club in Hamden, OH. He won the 16-yd Championship
shooting a brand new BT-99 and 8 different kind of shells (because at
the time, he didn’t know any better and no one told him)...And, so his
love of shooting began.
Roger has owned and operated his own manufacturing companies
since 1965. In 1982, he started Quality Replacement Parts, Inc in
6
Chardon, OH to manufacture perfected parts for trap and skeet machines and eventually, his own hand set machine. In 1988, Roger and
Barb moved to Litchfield Park, AZ lock, stock, barrel and QRP, Inc.
Repair service was introduced and was widely accepted. Customers
ranged from Hawaii, to New Zealand, Canada to the Panama Canal
Zone, Italy and all places in between. The corporation was the manufacturing distributor for all Remington machines and parts. QRP purchased the Parker Boss Plant out of Wichita, KS and turned it into the
Superior Trap which was sold to Vitron Mfg. in Phoenix, AZ. QRP also
imported and sold GMV SuperStar Machines and manufactured parts
for the Mattarelli and Canterbury Machines. QRP was a 50% partner
with the “Lincoln Sporting Clay Traps” lending Roger’s expertise in the
development of the machine. QRP’s stock in Lincoln was later sold to
his partner, Rod Shyda, who continues to expand the Lincoln product
line to include trap and skeet machines and a full line of sporting clay
equipment.
QRP was sold in 2001 (it continues to operate) and Roger and Barb
retired - from work, not from trapshooting! With too much time on his
hands, (that which was not taken up with golf and trapshooting), he
started a new company, Precision Replacement Parts, Inc. He manufactures replacement parts for trap and skeet guns - in between traveling to as many state shots as he can squeeze in!
Active at the Phoenix Trap and Skeet Club, Roger served on the
Board of Directors, including several years as treasurer, until the club
closed after the 2001 Spring Grand. That was one sad day for many,
many shooters both near and far.
Roger has been shooting registered targets for 40 years with his
trusty K-80 and as of the end of the 2014 target year, has amassed
103,200 Singles, 124,750 Handicap targets,and 90,850 Doubles for a
total of 318,800 registered targets. These targets were shot at 13 different state shoots, 6 different satellite grands and 25+ years of Grand
American attendance.
Welcome Roger, to the Arizona Trapshooting Hall of Fame!
