SNOWBALL DANCE
INFORMATION
December 7th is the date
for the annual Snowball
Dance at BHS. The auxiliary
gym will be transformed into
a sound and light show like
none other before.
For our Christmas
Dance and Prom, we will be
having a dress code. The expectations are not “out of
line” and are intended to alleviate questions as to what is,
and is not, acceptable.
May we help you???
It’s been said that it’s not where you stand that’s important, it’s
which direction you’re heading! We want to be heading in the right
(positive) direction!!
We want to know what you feel are areas in which we can improve.
Our School Improvement Steering Team is open to ideas and suggestions
about how we can be a better school.
At this time, we have “Strategy Teams” that are working in the areas of math, reading, writing, community communications, student
discipline, attendance goal setting and asking questions. Each of these teams
has developed plans to improve their specific area of interest. As the year
goes on, there are deadlines for implementation of those ideas and data is
recorded to show involvement and success.
But, a key component of our improvement process is YOU! We want

Vincennes University Field Trip a Success
Twenty-Five students loaded up a school bus and headed to Vincennes University for a college visit. Students enjoyed a campus
tour, a meeting with the admissions’ advisors, and a nice lunch on
campus. The BHS Guidance Department encourages all students
to get out there and explore the colleges, universities, technical
schools, or jobs you are interested in post graduation. Remember,
you can have up to two days of school to visit a college campus or
shadow a job that interests you if you fill out a college visit or job
shadow form.
Army Ranger Challenge
Congratulations to Ryan Nance and Sarah Hamilton on being named the 2014 Elite Army Challenge winners. During
the Army Range challenge all the kids endured two intense

consecutively one right after the other while being timed
and motivated by the Army instructor. Phase two consisted
of a modern day Military obstacle course. During these two
phases of training the students had the opportunity to compete against one another for the title of “The Elite’ 2014
Ranger Challenge winner for Boonville High School. Ryan
& Sarah were presented with a Ranger Challenge Plaque
and two tickets to the Indianapolis Colts football game.

The Counselors’ Corner
Mark your calendars for the annual financial aid meeting which this year will be
January 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center. That same evening, counselors will meet
with parents of juniors to discuss important information about preparing for college.
The November guidance newsletter will be distributed to seniors early this
month. Check out the scholarship opportunities, campus days, etc. Visit the BHS website for updated info!
November 14th is midterm for the second 9th weeks. Please help us monitor
the progress our students are making in their classes. We want to see all our students
earning credits and moving toward their goal of graduation. Remember, students always
have something to study—notes, study guides, vocabulary—even if they don’t have a
homework assignment due.
Also in December, the counselors will be finalizing second semester schedules.
Students need to be in the correct classes to reach their goals.
After report cards have been printed, if a grade has been changed, you will receive a notice on a special form sent by the teacher with your student or mailed home.
You can also check for changes on the Boonville High School website through PIV.
Changes will not be made on report cards.
Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend college representative visits in the
guidance office during part B and C of IRP when available. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to get information and have questions answered without having to drive
a long distance. Students must sign up in the guidance office beforehand to attend.
Bill Mohler Scholarships
We are excited to announce that applications for the Bill Mohler Scholarships will be
available to seniors on Friday, November 14th during IRP-A. Beginning with the class of
2013, this award is creating a lasting legacy at Boonville High School for generations to
come. What an amazing gift and a wonderful opportunity for our current seniors to
graduate with a Bill Mohler Scholar!
These awards will be given in various amounts, with the grand prize being an award of
$10,000 that is renewable for up to 4 years. This award is capable of covering the entire
cost of 4 years of tuition comparable to rates at a public college or university in the state
of Indiana. Mrs. Flamion will be meeting with students who qualify on November 14th
during IRP-A to explain the scholarship in more detail and provide applications. Applications will be due January 30, 2015. Students must have a 2.8 suggested GPA and plan
to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college after high school.
Underclassmen should be aware of these scholarships as they will be available for future generations of Pioneers. Rigorous coursework, high GPA, well rounded activities
and interests, and character will all be considered in naming these award recipients.
