Pastor’s Perspective Minister of Education, Youth & Children’s Ministry - Rob Paul - - Newlie Long – In February of 2013 I was sitting in the choir loft at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham on the last night of GIC. It had been a fantastic week of worship, meeting and encouraging missionaries, and being challenged to give and to go. That morning I had made a significant financial commitment to give even though I did not have any regular income at the time. As we finished singing the words, “You are faithful, God, you are faithful,” I had an overwhelming sense of God’s presence. With tears streaming down my face, I committed to the Lord that If he ever gave me another opportunity to pastor a church that I would be faithful to lead that church to be totally engaged in missions - to support missionaries and to send members out on mission. Our Acts 1:8 Strategy and having just-completed Global Impact Celebration are the result of the commitment I made during that GIC. Sunday night as I watched our folks bringing their commitment cards to the altar, I had the sense that life at First Baptist Church will never be the same. God has given us a vision for making Jesus known from Louisville to New York City, from the Mississippi Delta to Haiti, from Birmingham, Alabama to Battambang, Cambodia, and from Statesboro, Georgia to Debrecen, Hungary and beyond. As we take this incredible journey together, we are going to experience God’s presence and power in ways we never imagined because we will have to walk by faith. Rather than asking, “What can I afford to do?” or “What do I have time to do?” we will ask, “What is God calling me to do?” realizing that if God calls me to do it, he will provide the resources, the ability, and the opportunity to make it happen. But we will have to be willing to take the next step of faith, whatever it is. We have to be willing to leave the shore and step into the boat with Jesus. You can’t take a journey by standing still. Rejoice! Youth Christmas Party Transform Conference December 5 - 7 The youth Christmas party w i l l b e We d n e s d a y, December 10th, at Legion State Park’s lodge. If you are not familiar with them, youtube them…..you will be excited. The cost for the weekend will be $20 and as always we want EVERYONE to come! Missions Spotlight You had such an amazing opportunity to meet many of our partners. Some, like Saul Paul from Cambodia and Andrew Ward were people we have been partnering with. Others, like Cary Christian Center and Stephen Stallard from New York were new partners that we were just beginning to get to know. The best part was to watch as you interacted with them and relationships were being formed. Out of the GIC grew some specific opportunities for us to serve: Missions Spotlight continued... help Mosaic and Stephen Stallard prepare for a large worship service the next weekend. March 6 - 14 there is a request for us to lead another t each er ’s conference at Debrecen University in Hungary. March 12 - 22 we hope to send a team to Cambodia to help connect with University and high school students as well as disciple village leaders. July 11 - 18 Haiti is calling and we are responding with a medical team and a construction team partnering with Hispaniola Mountain Ministries. January 9 - 12 we want to take a team to New York to These are on top of the partnerships to Birmingham, Statesboro, and Cary that we are partnering with. Pray and ask where God moves your heart, whether to serve in a local school or neighborhood, somewhere in our state or country, or maybe you are being moved Continued in next column…..
