More than half a century ago, international scientists raced to discover the secret of life. At the forefront of this effort was a brilliant British researcher, Dr. Rosalind Franklin, who captured “Photograph 51” of the “B” form of DNA in 1952 while working at King’s College in London, England. It is with this photograph, acquired through 100 hours of X-ray exposure, that Dr. Franklin first revealed to the world the double-helix structure of DNA. Photo 512 Rosalind Franklin looking through the microscope1 As a foremost scientist of the 20th century, Dr. Rosalind Franklin blazed trails in multiple scientific areas.
