relationship between teachers and students. The academic level and quality of your courses.
Access to computers. Examinations... My Studies in Keele University as compared to Uppsala
University is differed in a way that the courses goes parallel throughout the semester. I have
studied four courses in one semester. Every course is arranged in lecture and tutorial, so it
is important not to fall behind and in preparing for final exams. The instructors were also
very nice that they try their best to help students in understanding their lectures.
Orientation and reception
13. Tell us about how it was to arrive and settle in. When I arrived at the airport at the scheduled time, Keele University Meet & Greet Airport Collection service picked up all arriving
international students by bus. From the day of arrival through the first week we got a plenty
of information and it was a good opportunity to meet a lot of international students and
create a contact. It was really nice.
Accommodation
14. Describe your accommodation. What type of accommodation did you have, where you satisfied? Do you have any tips for future students? The accommodation which I got in the
Horwood Hall of student residence is located near to most parts of lecture halls and offices.
The room is a small studio with a bed, bookshelf, desk, chair and a wardrobe. I shared kitchen
and bathroom and toilet with seven other men. In general I didnt like the accommodations,

it is unlike student accommodations in Uppsala which is much enough better than keeles.
However it didnt bother me as long as the duration of my study was only for one semester.
Your finances
15. Describe the cost of living. Did you find CSN adequate? How was the rent in comparison to
your rent in Uppsala? Did you undertake part-time work in addition to your studies? The
rent is almost same with what I had in Uppsala but food stuffs are much cheaper in UK.
CSN and Erasmus scholarship was perfectly adequate for the rent, food and other activities
and I survived with it. Thus, there was no need to undertake any part-time work.
Free time
16. What did you do in your free time? Did the university arrange any special activities? Where
there any activities specifically for exchange students? Were you happy with what was on
offer? I have travelled to Oxford city which is one of the trips arranged by the University.
There are also many societies to participate in different activities in the Keele University,
though it is a suburb. I participate weekly in the activities of Snapshot society and I liked
it. And I also frequently spent my free time and meet some people in Newcastle and Stoke
on Trent, cities close to Keele. In the Easter break time I have travelled throughout three
European country with other international students and experienced a very memorable trip
from that I have ever been before.

17. Please sum up your exchange experience. If you have any other tips for future exchange
students, or any other comments feel free to include them here. Keele Universities meets my
basic expectations. The courses that I have taken were instrumental in my future professional
career as it adds depth to my skill and became a good chance to have an experience of different
countries academic system and to build social network between varieties of people. In all
aspects I am very glad that I made to come to Keele University. I recommend other students
to make use of the exchange program as it is very helpful in both academic and personal
development.

teachers like? What courses would you recommend (or not) for future exchange students?
The relationship between teachers and students. The academic level and quality of your
courses. Access to computers. Examinations... The differences between Uppsala University
and Keele University are quite many. Firstly, you are going to study 4 courses simultaneously
and write exams in every course during a tight time period, which I thought is harder than
the system we have in Uppsala. I studied Economic modules (Asset Pricing, Price Theory,
Households, Firms and Government and Markets and Hierarchies), courses which were on
both level 1 (Swedish A) and 2 (Swedish B). The teachers were helpful although most of the
study time were self-studies.
Orientation and reception
13. Tell us about how it was to arrive and settle in. The transfer went smooth from Manchester
Airport where the University had arranged a bus from the airport to campus. Everyone were
very helpful!
Accommodation
14. Describe your accommodation. What type of accommodation did you have, where you satisfied? Do you have any tips for future students? Standard accommodation, I lived in Horwood
Hall which where a quite scruffy place to live but still okay. I had a room with washbasin
and we where 8 people on our floor sharing a kitchen, bathroom etc. Total cost approx. 1500
pounds for a semester

Your finances
15. Describe the cost of living. Did you find CSN adequate? How was the rent in comparison
to your rent in Uppsala? Did you undertake part-time work in addition to your studies?
Student accommodation in Keele was similar to the price of what you had paid in Uppsala.
When you are abroad you would like to see and do more stuff so you tend to spend more
money. I did not have a part-time work.
Free time
16. What did you do in your free time? Did the university arrange any special activities? Where
there any activities specifically for exchange students? Were you happy with what was on
offer? Some encounter trips, although it is easier and less expensive to go with your friends
on the weekends.

of your courses. Access to computers. Examinations... På Keele University är kvaliteten på
undervisningen rätt hög, lärarna är duktiga och de visar att de bryr sig. Detta är förväntat
eftersom studenterna där betalar för utbildningen. Sättet att undervisa är väldigt likt det vi
har i Uppsala på ingenjörsprogrammen: med föreläsningar, lektioner, inlämningar och tentor. Jag tog kurser på nivå 1 vilket gjorde att kraven och antalet undervisningstimmar var
lägre än i Uppsala, detta gav mig lite mer fritid, vilket är uppskattat på ett utbyte.
Orientation and reception
13. Tell us about how it was to arrive and settle in. Utbytesteamet på Keele, samt de studenter
som engagerat sig i detta, var mycket duktiga. Jag kände mig väl omhändertagen när jag
först kom dit, de hämtade oss på flygplatsen och campus kryllade av vänliga människor som
hjälpte en med allt möjligt.
Under utbytet anordnades flera utflykter runt om i England, som gav en chans att uppleva
många delar av landet.
Utbytesstudenter är lika välkomna som alla andra att gå med i sportsällskap och att engagera
sig. Det gjorde att man lätt integrerades och fick många vänner, såväl utbytesstudenter som
britter.

Accommodation
14. Describe your accommodation. What type of accommodation did you have, where you satisfied? Do you have any tips for future students? Jag bodde i en korridor på campus. Kvaliteten
på boendet var inte den bästa och det tar en stund att ta sig till de stora städerna. Men
däremot så bodde man väldigt nära vacker natur och undervisningslokalerna.
Vi bodde blandat med britter och andra utbytesstudenter, det gav oss en chans att lära känna
det landet vi bodde i samt andra länder över hela världen.
Tips: Jag kan rekommendera att beställa hem varor om man bor på campus, det tar ca 20
min med buss till den närmsta affären och det kostar ungefär lika mycket att beställa hem.
Lindsay Court är finast på campus men det kostar därefter.
Se till att ha kvar bostaden över påsklovet, att packa ut och in grejer är väldigt omständigt.
Man orkar sällan ta sig ut från campus, vilket kan bli lite enformigt. Men jag kan ändå
rekommendera att bo på campus, som de flesta utbytesstudenter, pendlingstiderna kan bli
mycket långa annars. Däremot så bor de äldre studenterna oftast i egna hus i de närbelägna
städerna, det kan också vara en intressant upplevelse.

Boendekostnaden är högre än i Sverige, men i den ingick enkel städning. Matkostnaderna
är ungefär lika. Jag klarade mig mer än väl på lån från CSN och Erasmus-bidrag, fastän jag
rest mycket under utbytestiden.
Free time
16. What did you do in your free time? Did the university arrange any special activities? Where
there any activities specifically for exchange students? Were you happy with what was on
offer? Det negativa med Keele är att det inte ligger i en stor stad, det gör att fritidsaktiviteterna kan vara begränsade. Däremot så finns det väldigt många sportsällskap och andra
grupper att gå med i. Jag var med i vandrings och klättersällskapet, de ordnade många resor,
regelbundna träningar och pubrundor.
På Campus finns ett antal pubar och en stor klubb i deras kårhus. Vill man festa så finns det
möjligheter. I den närmaste staden Newcastle-under-Lyme finns många bra restauranger och
pubar. Jag kan rekommendera Hunter’s Chicken på den lokala puben, Sneyd Arms i Keele
Village, om man vill ha en stadig måltid.
Gillar man att resa så är Keele rätt bra beläget, det tar ca 4h att resa till Skottland med tåg
och 2-3h till London. Utbytesteamet anordnar dessutom bussresor, under terminen, till olika
delar av landet, så som London, Oxford och Liverpool.
Är man ett fan av fotboll ligger Keele närmast till Stoke-on-Trent, men också en timme från
Liverpool, Manchester och Birmingham.
För övrigt är naturen runt campus mycket fin och vill man se de senaste storfilmerna så
finns en bra bio i närheten.

students, or any other comments feel free to include them here. Innan utbytet var jag lite
orolig, eftersom jag inte riktigt visste vad som väntade. Men det behövde jag inte vara, tar
man en sak i taget så löser sig det mesta. Att utmana sig själv till att åka på utbyte är ett
mycket bra sätt att utvecklas.
Jag är mycket nöjd med att åka på utbyte till England och Keele. Jag har verkligen vuxit
som person, blivit mycket van vid att resa och framförallt fått många nya vänner från hela
världen.
