International Approaches to Advisor Professionalism
Canadian regulators are contemplating "game-changing" proposals that would
radically alter the provision of financial advice, such as a statutory fiduciary duty
and the banning of commissions. Part of the impetus behind the proposals is the
sentiment that Canadian regulators must keep pace with their international
colleagues. This panel will examine the reforms foreign jurisdictions have undertaken to professionalize their advisory sector, with a critical look at their results to date.
What can Canada learn from their experiences? Should we be so quick to follow
in their footsteps?
