Step forward,

FOR
TEXAS
TEXAS NEIGHBORS
THE FUTURE OF
FALL 2014
VOTE
13
In this space, I customarily implore
you to go cast a ballot in the upcoming “most important election in our
lifetime.” The election on Nov. 4 is
no exception. For the first time in a
generation, every state-level constitutional office—save a couple of Railroad Commission seats—will have a
new occupant come 2015. The entire
Congressional delegation and Texas
House and half the Texas Senate are
up for election. You simply owe it to
your children and grandchildren to
get out and cast your vote.
Several Farm Bureau leaders
stepped forward in past years and
offered their own names for election
at the state and local levels. Former
county Farm Bureau president Kyle
Kacal will head to Austin for his second term in the State House in January. He will hopefully be joined by
two other former county presidents,
DeWayne Burns and Andy Murr.
More than a handful of other Farm
Bureau leaders are up for election
for county judges or commissioners.
Their success is a direct reflection of
the leadership development offered
by everyday participation in Farm
Bureau activities.
A specific activity that I’d like to
put in your mind is the Texas Farm
Bureau Campaign School, offered
each odd-numbered fall. Nearly every
person who attended the 2013 school
and ran for office won. The past two
classes alone should end up producing three state representatives, three
county judges and three county commissioners. If you have ever considered running for office at any level, I
strongly encourage you to contact me
or any member of your TFB legislative
team and visit about participating
in the 2015 campaign school. It’s a
relatively small investment of time
and money that could ultimately put
you or another Farm Bureau leader
in a position to directly influence the
policy debate.
