Day Program
To commemorate Veterans Day, Stanley County
Schools will present their Veterans Day Program on
November 11 at 2:30 PM in Parkview Auditorium. This year’s theme is “Our Flag”. Superintendent
Dan Martin was quoted, “On this day, we would like
to honor our veterans for the sacrifices they made to
defend our country and protect our freedoms.” The
program will include musical and oratory student participation from students ages kindergarten through
high school. Parents and the public are encouraged to
attend this meaningful event for our country and its
veterans.
Responsible Behavior Pays
The Stanley County freshmen, sophomores, juniors
and seniors were thanked by the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office and the Stanley County States Attorney’s
Office for their responsible behavior during Stanley
County's Homecoming this year.
"We feel it is just as important to reward good behavior, as well as punish bad behavior," stated Chief Deputy Greg Swanson.
This is the second year in a row the students have
been treated to Pizza Ranch pizza as the result of a
trouble free homecoming.

teams in sports and fine arts activities. In order to qualify, the cumulative grade point average of the group must be a minimum of 3.0.
Qualifying for the honor were: Boys Cross

Stanley County Elementary continues to collect Box
Tops for Education and Labels for Education. The money
from the box tops goes into our playground fund and the
points from Campbell’s are used to purchase school
items from their catalog.
We appreciate all the support parents and community
members give us in this area. If you have any of these
items you may send them to school with your child or
drop them off at the elementary office.

Unity Day
On Thursday, October
23rd, Stanley County
celebrated Unity Day.
Unity Day is a nationwide campaign in which
schools and communities wear orange to
show awareness of
bullying. We had a large
number of students
wear orange to school on this day and also to the football game
Thursday night. Students and parents joined together for a balloon
release at the game to show their support. In classrooms in the upcoming weeks, student lessons will be focused on issues surrounding
bullying. Thank you for participating!
Marking Clothing
Please take the time to mark your child’s winter weather clothing with
his/her name. With numerous kids having similar looking items, it will
be very helpful in keeping them straight and tracking the items down in
the event that they do go missing.
Thank you!

National Parent Involvement Month
Parents/Guardians:
November is National Parent Involvement month. While we
do not necessarily need a “special” month to remember the
value of this, it is a good reminder of how important your
role as the parent is in the education of your children.
Parent involvement can take on many different forms; however, some of the simplest things can have an impact on your
child’s school experience. We can never reinforce enough
the value of simply reading with your child, especially young
children. Even if you read the same book over and over, you
are improving your child’s print awareness, fluency, and comprehension skills.
Another way to stay involved in your child’s education is
simply asking questions. Going beyond just asking “how was
your day” and getting real answers from your child can make
a difference in your understanding on how things are going for
your child.
To get “real” answers from your child, avoid yes or no questions such as “Did you learn anything new today?” Also, avoid
leading questions such as, “Was your favorite part of the day
math?”, especially if your child is a people pleaser.
Below are some conversation starters to get beyond the typical “how was your day” questions.
 Ask them to share their best and worst of their day and
don’t forget to share yours.
 Play your own version of Would You Rather. For
example, “Would you rather: Have a math class or
reading class?
 Who did you play or hangout with today?
 What’s one fun thing you did today?
 What’s one hard thing you did today?
 What was the nicest thing you heard today?
 What put a smile on your face today?
 What’s one thing you’re thankful for today?
 What’s one thing you would like to learn to do well this
school year?
Reading and having effective communication with your child
are two great ways to begin steps to having meaning involvement with your child’s education.

Sign Up to Receive Our Announcements
The district will be using Remind; a one way messaging system to communicate emergency announcements and reminders to parents this year. This system will allow us to efficiently send messages to parents via text and/or email.
Please note that standard text message rates do apply. This
is a one way system so if you reply to a message it will not be
received. Also, it does require that you sign up as the
district cannot simply add you.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office at
223-7741.

The Elementary Counseling Corner
Tips and strategies for talking to your kids about bullying (from
stopbullying.gov)
Help them understand bullying by:
Encourage kids to speak to a trusted adult if they are bullied
or see others being bullied. The adult can give comfort,
support, and advice, even if they can’t solve the problem
directly. Encourage the child to report bullying if it happens.
Talk about how to stand up to kids who bully. Give tips, like using humor and saying “stop” directly and confidently. Talk about
what to do if those actions don’t work, like walking away
Urge them to help kids who are bullied by showing kindness or
getting help.
Watch bullying videos online and discuss them.
Keep communication open
Research tells us that kids really do want to talk to
their parents or caregivers for advice.
Spending an extra 15 minutes a day may reassure
kids they can talk to their parents if they have a
problem.
Start daily conversations about life and feelings
Keep up to date with your kids by checking school
newsletters, school website, and attending
school events.
Encourage kids to do what they love
Help kids take part in activities, interests, and hobbies they like.
Kids can volunteer, play sports, sing in a chorus, or
join a youth group or school club.
These activities give kids a chance to have fun and
meet others with the same interests. They can
build confidence and friendships that help protect kids from bullying.
Model how to treat others with kindness and respect
Kids learn from adult actions.
By treating others with kindness and respect, kids
learn there is no place for bullying.
Even if it seems like they are not paying attention,
kids are watching how adults manage stress
and conflict, as well as how they treat their
friends, colleagues, and families.
Winter Clothing Reminder
Students need a winter coat, hat, gloves, snow pants, and
snow boots to have full access to the playground during
these cold, snowy months. Please remember to label your
child’s items as many children have similar looking pieces.
If you need assistance in obtaining one or more of these
items, please contact the elementary office at 223-7745.
