Both of these world-class conferences will be held in Québec City, a UNESCO world heritage treasure, from September 20 to 23, 2015. This event attracts scientists, engineers, researchers, code consultants and building officials, contractors and project managers as well as suppliers from various fields of expertise and countries. Québec City has seen its economic and industrial sector grow at a rapid pace over the last few years and has become the hub of Northern Québec’s economic growth. The strong presence of the public sector (transportation, environment, resources) in the city, as well as its active private sector and proximity to the largest urban centers in Eastern Canada are few of the key aspects that will ensure that the 68th Canadian Geotechnical Conference and the 7th Canadian Permafrost Conference will be great success. MAIN CONFERENCE THEME: CHALLENGES FROM NORTH TO SOUTH “GEOQuébec 2015: Challenges from North to South” will highlight innovations in addressing complex geotechnical and permafrost challenges from across Canada and abroad within the framework of the economic development of society. The theme reflects both Canada’s geographical realm and Québec’s current efforts in shaping its “Plan Nord” with the anticipated construction of transportation infrastructure that will help boost the economy above the 56th parallel and especially Northern communities.
