FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Awesome mobile application ideation workshop The Computing and Information Technology Department of KDU Penang has once again partnered Celcom Axiata Berhad in organising the exciting “U.O.X ignites AppLab” during 22-24 September 2014 at KDU Penang. It was the 4th consecutive year the “League of Extraordinary Developers Challenge (LEDC) Campus Programme” was being carried out at KDU Penang to generate interest among students in bringing creative ideas for mobile apps as well as understanding the development of it. The event was held in an educational cum competition-based environment and received overwhelming response from our students. Tye Chuen-Han, who has just finished his Diploma in Computer Studies, emerged as the winner of “Express Idea” with his innovative idea of “FINDME” - an indoor GPS to find location and people. He left with a cash prize of RM500. As for the 2-day workshop, participants of team S.I.X. which comprises of Chong Xin Wei, Hariivel Suresh, Amir Firdaus and Arvind Suppiramaniyam from the Diploma in Computer Studies programme and Khoo Khai Lun from the Diploma in Games Technology programme won the first prize. The team walked away with a RM1500 - cash prize while each of them bagged a Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Team Titans and Team Eclipse Hub won second and third prize respectively with RM800 and RM500 cash prizes for their teams. There were two other special prizes for the participating students. Team WOW clearly wowed the judges with their presentation by winning the “Most Creative Power Point Slides” while Team Candy Shop impressed the Celcom’s representative with their active participation and was awarded the “Most Energetic Team”. “The students’ energy and ideas are amazing. AppLab would like to congratulate all the winners and hope that the workshop has improved their ideation and team management skills. Mr Ooi Beng Chong, lecturer of IT Department was glad for the initiative, he said, “It was indeed an inspiring and informative workshop for our students. Besides acquiring the knowledge in developing a mobile app, students learned the value of persistency from how the Angry Birds’ creator succeed after failing 25 times.
