National DNA-library?
A pilot collaborative study by the Swedish Agency for
Marine and Water Management and SLU – Swedish
Species Information Centre

SLU Barcoding network
Barcoding starts with a specimen
with an identified species name.
That is the tricky part!
2006-2009 marine inventory Sweden: 1200
species, 75 not known from Sweden (incl. 29
new to science)
ID:d specimens preserved in ethanol!!!
2014-2015 DNA library starts
2015-2016 Barcoding is tested in

•  Swedish Barcode of Life
•  Recently started secretariat (small scale, part

History
•  Much to think of! Aim? Function? Strategy?
Hosting organisation? Etc etc…
•  Ongoing collaboration w NorBOL works fine!

CGI: cost efficient to do 96 samples (2days) from tissue.
Between 6000-8000 SEK from tissue to validated barcode (taxon-ID).
Vi kommer då:
utföra analyser med angiven kvalitétssäkring,
tolka och analysera resultat,
lagra DNA-extrakt tillsvidare,
lagra överblivna prover ett år,
lagra resultat och data digitalt i tre år efter överenskommelsens utgång,
lagra data i referensbibliotek,
samlingsföra prover om det är intressant för Naturhistoriska riksmuseet.
