NCEA exams have started this week, with a slight change from the norm with Level One Science leading the way. The country’s biggest exam, Level One English will have happened this morning and we hope our students were well prepared and did well. Over the next week the majority of our students will sit their final exams and will then be able to relax and start to enjoy their summer break. longer than other secondary and area schools. How this has come about we are unsure but it does present issues for staffing around maximum teacher contact time and more obvious is the tiredness of the children, especially in the primary school with a 3.15pm finish. What has been discussed with staff and the Board of Trustees is to shave 15 minutes off the school day to bring it more in line with other secondary and area schools. What this will mean is that from the start Yesterday 60 of our students travelled to Cheviot of 2015 that the school day will start at 8.45 as it for the combined Hurunui Primary schools currently does and will finish at 3pm every day. athletics and they did exceptionally well. Hurunui There will be no early finish on a Tuesday. College students placed very highly across the To enable this we have cut out the 15 minute majority of the events including a dominant whanau time for secondary students in the performance in the relays, and we will have a morning, so there will be no loss of learning time strong showing at the Canterbury athletics in a and students will go straight to Period 1 classes at few weeks’ time. We have two positions in the primary school that close today and we will be looking to make appointments over the next two weeks. As we head into next year we are making a few changes to school structures, as has been written about in past newsletters and the final one of notable difference will be the length of the school day. The Hurunui College school day length is substantially longer than all other primary schools and marginally Week ending 14th November 2014 This week’s newsletter sponsored by: Bill, Maureen and Ben Bamford Enter to learn Leave to serve Whakauru Ki Te Ako, Wehe Atu Kia Manaakitia SCHOOL NOTICES A reminder that tomorrow (Thursday 13th November) is an additional holiday attached to Canterbury Anniversary weekend.
