Fortunately there was a petrol station nearby. Sister Mary Ann walked to the petrol station to borrow a petrol can and buy some petrol. The attendant told her that their only petrol can had been loaned out, but she could wait until it was returned. Since Sister Mary Ann was on the way to see a patient she decided not to wait and walked back to her car. She looked for something in her car that could be filled with petrol and spotted a bedpan. Always resourceful, Sister Mary Ann carried the bedpan to the petrol station, filled it with petrol and carried the full bedpan back to her car. As Sister Mary Ann was pouring the petrol into the fuel tank two Baptists watched from across the street. One of them turned to the other and said, “If it starts, I’m turning Catholic.” Chapter 35 of the Book of Exodus is a good example of resourcefulness. The Israelites used their resources (the goods taken when they left Egypt) and the skills given them by God to craft the tabernacle, the ark and the furnishings of the tabernacle. With regard to resourcefulness here’s a few questions for personal reflection: What talents, abilities, resources has God given to me? Do I use them in service for others? Do I receive God’s gifts (life, faith, family, relationships, skills, experiences, imagination, our world in all its beauty) with gratitude and cultivate them responsibly? Prayerful good wishes, Fr David Presider at Masses this weekend: Fr David Dowling Psalm Response: The waters of the river gladden the city of God. Gospel Acclamation: I have chosen and sanctified this house, says the Lord, that my name may remain in it for all time. Welcome to any visitors to our Parish today. Contact Luigi Cacace at [email protected] Clergy Support: $539 CATHOLIC SOCIAL JUSTICE SLOT Are we still a Church capable of warming hearts?” asked Pope Francis in an address to a meeting of bishops. Today, as the Universal Church honours the Church of St. John Lateran, the Holy Father challenges us to view the Church as all of us, you and me, the People of God. The Church building where we worship together is important, but it’s we who warm hearts, we who evangelize and encourage, we who show the loving face of God to the world. Do I see myself as a living stone in a Church that warms hearts?
