It is a busy time of year for us all, but we do expect all students to continue with their Home Learning through to the end of the year, and we expect them to be at school and on time. Tala Savelio will be taking a year’s leave to travel overseas. Kate Ilsley will also be leaving us to firstly travel and then seek employment at another school closer to her home in Wellington. Kate has been at Trentham School for 6 years. Over the last two years she has been our Maths Support Teacher working closely with small groups of children to raise achievement levels. She has contributed significantly to our school over her time here and she will be missed. New teachers to our school are Scott McLeod, a beginning teacher, and Michelle Sturrock, an experienced teacher currently at Wilford School in Petone. We welcome Scott and Michelle to our staff. If the weather is not good we’ll hold our Celebration in the Fergusson Intermediate school hall. We’ll make a decision before the end of the school day and send home details, post on Facebook and put it on our website. So be aware the Celebration will be on this year, rain or shine.  Nga Mihi Suzanne Su’a [email protected] 1 VALUE OF THE TERM KINDNESS/MANAAKI We are learning to know how to be kind – naturally, thoughtfully, cheerfully and genuinely. Without kindness no one would listen when people or animals need help. Everyone would be looking out for himself and the world would be lonely. Being kind allows us to feel connected to everything and everyone. We are teaching our children the worth of looking out for others and practicing a life skill for which they will be known. Goal: I will show kindness by playing with someone at home or school who doesn’t have anyone to play with or who is looking lonely or unhappy. Quote; Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. SCHOOL NEWS & REMINDERS Welcome to the last Board report for 2014! Firstly, I’d just like to say how proud I was of all our students at the school concert! From the new entrants to the seniors it was a fantastic performance by every single one of our kids. To all the teachers, teacher aides, support staff and parents who helped in some way to make the night a great success; a big THANK YOU. You have helped showcase our entire school in a wonderfully positive way. There are some exciting changes starting soon in the Junior school. A new sunshade will be built over the Junior playground shortly. The Board would like to acknowledge the Home and School’s assistance in providing a generous contribution of $20,000 so this project could go ahead. Over the summer holidays and throughout Term 1, Rooms 16 and 17 will be transformed into a new modern learning environment. This is a major undertaking but the resulting classrooms will be a wonderful asset to the school and I’m sure the students and teachers will love these new classrooms. Thank you to everyone who shopped at Pak ‘n’ Save during the recent Cash for Schools competition and put their receipts into our “slot”. Trentham School was rewarded with a cheque for $10,000!!! This money will go towards a sunshade for the Senior playground. Soon both our playgrounds will provide our students with much needed sun protection during the hot summer months. Our recent survey regarding technology in classrooms has shown that our community is interested in our students utilising technology to assist their learning. After our recent Board discussion we are enthusiastic about an upcoming trial of two digital classrooms in 2015. Two classrooms will be trialled in our senior syndicate next year. In these classrooms students will have the opportunity to bring their own device from home if they wish. School Chromebooks will be utilised; as they are now, in these rooms and these will be supplemented with student’s own devices. More information will come out regarding this soon. Karey Stokes MAHI TOI This term we have Henare Parker working with our boys at Mahi Toi on taiaha. Henare is a social worker who is currently employed with Te PaePae Arahi Youth Services. His focus will be on discipline, respect, confidence and fitness. He is currently working with groups at Wainuiomata College, Wainuiomata Community Centre, Hutt Valley Activity Centre and launching soon at Upper Hutt College. SUN HAT REMINDER There are still some children who do not have a sunhat at school. A reminder that we have a sun smart policy of “no hat, no play” for Term 4. Please ensure your child has a sun hat at school so they are not restricted to shady areas when outside. SUBWAY LUNCH FRIDAY 28th NOVEMBER The Home and School is organizing a Subway lunch where you can purchase a Mini Sub and M&M cookie for $5.50 or a 6 Inch Sub and M&M cookie for $6.50. An order form will be sent home early next week and orders will need to be in by Tuesday 25th November. 2 MINIBALL Miniball scores from 5th November: Trentham Terminators won 42 - 0 against Upper Hutt Trentham Heat won 32 - 0 against Trentham Raptors The Terminators are unbeaten after 3 games while the Heat have had 2 wins. Raptors have won 1 game. DENTAL CLINIC CARPARK Please do not park in the dental clinic carpark unless you have an appointment. It is dangerous to be parked there dropping off children when the mobile clinics/buses are trying to manoeuvre out of the carpark. CHILDREN TURNING 5 If you have a child turning 5 in 2015, please contact the school office to make an enrolment if you haven’t already done so.
