Festival of Creativity, Culture and Technology
Lunchtime activities will be held this week to celebrate the
Festival of Creativity, Culture and Technology. Each campus
will have an exhibition of works done by our students
throughout the year. Parents are welcome to view the
exhibitions that are open each school day this week. See
article later in this newsletter.
Huon Campus Refurbishment
Last week Wodonga Middle Years College was allocated 4.3
million dollars to be spent on the Huon Campus. This money
will allow us to refurbish the Arts, Technology and Languages
area of the campus, as well as to create the flexible learning
spaces that are best suited to teaching and learning at the
middle years. This allocation is the next stage of the
reconstruction of Wodonga Middle Years College and follows
the refurbishment of the Felltimber Campus and the building of
the Year Seven centre at Huon in 2010/11.
Campus Awards Ceremonies
Congratulations to those students who
received
awards
at
last
week’s
ceremonies.
Awards were given for
Diligence and Excellence in ATL subjects;
Sport; and Service to WMYC and the wider community. The
ceremonies were conducted by the Year 9 Leadership students
(thank you for a job well done) and featured a short film of
snippets from our Little Shop of Horrors production.
The major awards ceremony will be held at Huon Campus
December 16 commencing with an AVID run BBQ at 6pm. The
ceremony will commence at 7pm.
Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences were held yesterday with students' A
Team teachers. Thank you to everyone who attended. These
conferences give each student the opportunity to discuss their
work and give them ownership of their learning. Having the
student take control of the conference helps to build their
confidence and gives them experience in contributing to
meetings that will help them in their future endeavours.
Remembrance Day Services
Today is Remembrance Day and WMYC will conduct services
at both campuses.
Huon at 10.40am in the Gym
Felltimber at 11.55am to 12.30 in the PAC
Year 9 Queensland Camp
Next Monday, November 17, a group of our Year 9 students
from Huon and Felltimber travel to Queensland for camp. This
is a great way for them to finish their middle years school,
experiencing the theme parks and beach and getting to know
their peers before heading off to senior college.

Youth Albury Wodonga
Orien Cuper-Mace and Cody Dugdell received
their Graduation certificate after completing the
Northeast Wilderness Camp. Along with 15 other
boys their first challenge was a 2 day hike to
Mittagundi Camp. During the 10 days the boys
engaged in a range of skill building activities and
tasks and from all accounts passed with flying colours. New
friends, new skills, able to survive without modern technology,
an all round positive experience. WMYC congratulates the boys
and thanks their parents for supporting them in this challenge.

‘Sexting’ Now Banned in Victoria
So-called "sexting" without consent is now an offence in Victoria.
From last Monday, anyone who maliciously or deliberately
spreads intimate images of another person – or threatens to do
so – faces prosecution under two new offences. The ban applies
to intimate images of anyone under the age of 18 as well as
images of adults without their consent. Those who illegally
spread such images can be jailed for up to two years.
Those who threaten to distribute them can be jailed for up to one
year. The new laws also introduce exceptions to child
pornography offences so those under 18 will not be prosecuted
or placed on the sex offenders’ register for consensual, nonexploitative sexting. This law was introduced to keep up with
changing technology. Victoria was the first Australian state to
introduce the ‘sexting’ law. So what does this mean for our
young people? The new laws on the one hand will protect our
young people from being put on the Sexual Offenders Registerpossibly for life, however as the new laws make it an offence to
send or threaten to send inappropriate images, young people
can still face serious criminal charges. This topic is really worth
discussing with your child as they may have heard some
information but not all and for such possibly serious
consequences some guidance may be really helpful.
Festival of Creativity, Culture and Technology
This week will see a celebration of all things Arts, Technology
and Languages.

Outdoor Education
Year 9 Outdoor Education 2014 - Felltimber
Outdoor Education at WMYC opens new
horizons. For some students it’s a
journey into an unfamiliar world - a world
of differences where
norms and routines
are left behind and
where people dress,
feel,
think
and
behave differently. Going outdoors can also
be a voyage of discoveries where people
find things out about themselves, about
each other and about the natural world.
This year the Year 9’s have had many
adventures including Kayaking, Cross
Country Skiing, Caving, Mountain Biking
and Bushwalking. They have been able
to express themselves and build
relationships with their friends and staff
members.
As the last trip for
2014
rapidly
approaches, it’s
time to reflect on
the year. The loss
of precious items: the beloved beanie,
standing on the kayaks, the crazy games
of hide and seek in the caves, the endless selfie photos, starting
the abandoned train and then getting into trouble and the epic
sheep herding just to list a few.
I would like to thank all staff who have supported the OE
program this year. Without you trips would not run and I cannot
thank you enough. Finally a big thanks to all the Outdoor Ed
students here at Felltimber. It has been a
crazy year and my last piece of advise for
all of you is…. Keep adventuring in the
great outdoors!
At Huon we shall be running Art 'Walk-Throughs’ and engaging
in a fun day of Cosplay on Friday. Students are to come to
school dressed as their favourite character from anime, manga,
gaming, or movies… Best Cosplayer get a prize for each year
level.
To come dressed up you are required to bring a gold coin
donation (for the Premature Babies Ward at Wodonga Base
Hospital).
We shall be participating in drawing manga, watching anime,
chalk pavement drawing, face painting, mask making, origami…
