A 30 minute intense class, that works
the whole body. Using equipment and
body weight exercises, this class focuses

EAT WELL BE WELL
Eating smart and balancing food intake
with physical fitness is the key!
This class will equip you to make healthy
choices by teaching you what types of
food to eat and how to control portion
sizes. We will discuss topics such as
cutting calories, reading nutrition labels,
navigating the grocery store, and eating
out. Participants will keep a food journal
and monitor progress through body
measurements and weigh-ins.

Preschool lessons (ages 3 to 5)
PIKE
Pike is for children who are new to swimming
lessons and are ready to take class without their
parent. They will learn alternating kicking, blowing
bubbles and alternating arm motions. Emphasis
will be on putting face in the water.
EEL
Eel’s are working on swimming independently at
least five feet on their front and back in a horizontal position. The child should be comfortable
submerging underwater. This class concentrates
on back floating independently and kicking on the
back while swimming. Sitting dives and diving
safety are introduced.
RAY
Ray is for students who are experience swimming
and taking lessons. They can swim 15 feet in
prone position with face in the water and are able
to begin freestyle while swimming the front crawl,
and back float independently. Rotary breathing
is introduced and emphasized. diving elementary
backstroke, and survival skills are introduced at
this level.
STARFISH
Starfish is for children who can swim 25 feet with
their face in the water independently. Rotary
breathing is strongly emphasized, as is a continued
emphasis on diving, elementary backstroke, and
survival skills. Swimmers learn to swim a complete lap of the pool (50 feet) unassisted on both
their front and back. the instructors also focus
on teaching level body positions and rhythmic
breathing.
Progressive Lessons (Ages 6 and Up)
POLLIWOG
Polliwog is for children with no previous experience and or hesitancy in the water. Children will
learn alternating arm strokes and flutter kick using
a kickboard while covering a distance of 10-15
yards. They will also be introduced to paddling
and kicking on their back. the curriculum includes
bubble blowing, putting face in the water, bobbing
and introduction to floating both on front and back.

GUPPY
Guppy focuses on rotary breathing. The freestyle
and backstroke are refined. Concentration is on
endurance and strength to accomplish swimming
25 yards on the front and the back.
MINNOW
Minnow level students must be able to swim
front crawl and backstroke 25 yards without
stopping. Concentration is on front crawl and
coordinated freestyle and rotary breathing. In
this level students must be very good at freestyle
and backstroke because they will be introduced to
breaststroke and using symmetrical arms, which is
one of the competitive strokes.
FISH
In the fish level there is a continued development
of freestyle, back crawl and breaststroke. Children
begin to learn butterfly and flip turns. Emphasis is
on stroke refinement and building endurance.
FLYING FISH
Students with a very strong swimming ability may
enroll in FLYING FISH. This class is for experienced swimmers who are able to swim freestyle
with rotary breathing and proper backstroke and
a proper backstroke for 75-100 yards continuously. The breaststroke will be refined as well as a
continued introduction to butterfly, the final of the
competitive strokes.
SHARK
Shark level children will have very strong swimming ability. This class is for experienced swimmers who are able to swim freestyle, backstroke,
breaststroke continuously for 200 yards. They will
continue to improve their butterfly. As well as flip
turns and streamlining of the diving blocks.

Splash Class is a low/moderate intensity class
designed for improving flexibility while toning,
strengthening and improving the function of
the heart and lungs.

Aquacise class is an intense aerobic aquatics
class in the shallow end of the pool. All major
muscle groups are utilized. Interval, circuit
training, plyometrics and choreography and
motivating music are all part of this class.

AquaJog:
AquaJog is a high intensity workout with no
impact. This class is held in the deep water
with flotation belts worn as support. You
need to be comfortable in deep water. Water
resistance helps to tone and strengthen
muscles while burning calories. The floatation
belts are provided by the YMCA and are
required for this class.

HIP HOP
Hip Hop has become the dance expression for
today’s youth for both boys and girls.
Participants will learn the latest dance moves
through fun choreographic movements and
family-friendly music in a high-energy
environment. In this class dancers will be able

while learning a new skill.

The YMCA of Wooster is offering a Monthly group
training for sport and non sport specific Speed, Agility,
and Strength Training for all athletes in grades 7-12.
Training will begin on the first Monday and Tuesday of
a month as long as it is not a holiday, and will run from
3-4pm at the YMCA facility and will focus on improving
quickness, power, strength, speed, and agility.

Holiday Sporty for Shorty’s Camp

This will be a camp for preschool kids thru
kindergarten to learn the fundamentals of different

a different sport to teach kids the fundamentals.

karate lessons! The instructors teach many different
techniques and styles including self defense, Kung Fu,

Adult Volleyball League
Bump, set, spike it, and get back on the court to get
a piece of the action. The YMCA of Wooster is offering
a great coed volleyball leagues for adults and teens.

YMCA High School Y-BALL League
Saturdays, Beginning January 10
Games are played on Saturdays at the YMCA Woodland
Facility. All games are officiated. Minimum of 8 and a
maximum of 15 players on a roster. Every team must
have an adult coach present over the age of 21. Teams
are required to provide shirts with numbers on the
back. Team names can be creative, but need to be
tasteful and appropriate.
$315 per team
Registration Deadline: December 31st
Games start January 10th and will run through March
7th.
All players MUST be enrolled in high school full
time and CAN NOT be currently playing for their
high school team.

The Indoor Soccer League will be open to all youth
players in K-4th grade. Age divisions will include K-1st
grade and 2nd-4th grades. All levels welcome! Coaches
and Volunteers needed!

T-Ball And Coach Pitch League
Get the gloved warmed up and practice sliding into
home. America’s pastime is about to be upon us.
Join us as we play another great season of T-Ball and
Coaches pitch baseball. Practices start at the Beginning
of May and the Season runs the Month of June. T-Ball
on Monday and Tuesday and Coach Pitch Thursday and
Friday.

Healthy Kids Day Race
Saturday, April 25th 9:00am at YMCA of Wooster
The Healthy Kids Day Race is back!!! The race is 1 Mile
long and will take place on April 25th, 2015 at 9:00
am. Medals will be presented to the top finishers after
the race. Once the race is over, head down to the
YMCA for the rest of the Healthy Kids Day
Activities.
Cost: $15 per child $30 per family
Fido and Me 5K
Bring out the dog and or dogs and enjoy a beautiful
day as we honor man’s best friend. You run, walk, and
even roll over as we start a new tradition around the
area. We will have treats and water for the dogs at the
water stops, along with trashcans and bags in case
your dog had to stop and use the restroom.

THE SPOT
The SPOT is an afterschool program in The SPOT
Youth Center at Cornerstone Elementary, offers free
daily tutoring in partnership with college of Wooster
volunteers, arts & crafts, sports, games, free snacks,
evening dinners, and a nurturing & safe environment.
Hours: after school until 6:30pm
Non-refundable $10.00 fee/year for all participants

SCHOOL’S OUT CAMP
Come join us at the YMCA for games, swimming,
bowling, sports activities, and more! Camp Fun Day
runs from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with activities
scheduled throughout the day. Special activities will
include swimming at the YMCA Natatorium, bowling,
ice skating and much more!
Snacks provided! Please pack a lunch.

The Clubhouse Kids Program provides
morning and afternoon childcare, serving
all Wooster City Schools for children K-6,
being housed at the YMCA Woodland Ave.
facility in the morning, for the 2013-2014
school year. The morning program opens
at 6:30 a.m. and dismisses children to
Edgewood Middle School by 8:00 a.m.,
Elementary students will be dismissed to
their schools by 8:25 a.m.. Parent’s are
responsible for breakfast. The afternoon
session, busses from WCS, is housed
at the YMCA of Wooster, and is available
until 6:00 p.m.. Clubhouse Kids activities
include Tutoring, Spanish, Computer Lab,
Sports and Fitness Activities, Science &
Cooking Activities, Homework, Character
Development, and Arts & Crafts. A Healthy
Snack is provided in the afternoon! Come
see our **NEW** youth center with
computers, Wii’s, Xbox, and Air Hockey!!!
Clubhouse Kids Enrichment Program

“abroad.” One day each week
students will learn skills in the

AWAY program - This program allows members who
are traveling to another city outside a 60-mile radius
to use the local Y free, or at a reduced rate. If using
a visiting pass more than three times a month, a
Wooster YMCA membership should be purchased.
Day Passes - Day passes, which entitle you to use
the pool, gym, weight room, and racquetball courts
may be purchased at either building. A waiver must be
signed by a parent for members under 18.
Building Rentals - The Woodland Avenue facility and
the Ellen Shapiro Natatorium are available for rental
use. Whether it is for a birthday party, meeting, youth
overnighter, or whatever the occasion, the Woodland
facility houses a conference room, multi-purpose room,
gymnasium, racquetball/wallyball courts, and more.
Call for prices for your birthday party, family function
or company organization. Nonprofit organization rates
available.
Babysitting - Babysitting is a free service for
members. The Woodland Avenue Program Center has
babysitting available Mon - Fri mornings 9:00 - 11:30
a.m. and Mon -Thurs evenings 5:00 - 8:00 p.m for
infants through age six. This service is to be used
when the adult bringing the child will be using the
workout facility or taking a class on the premises of
the YMCA - Woodland Avenue. Non-Members may
purchase a babysitting card at the front desk.

Weather Closing Policy - If Wooster City Schools
close for weather involving dangerous road conditions
all YMCA classes are cancelled until Noon. All YMCA
facilities will remain open for walk in use only, but
there will be no babysitting provided. If there is a
level 3 emergency all YMCA facilities will be closed.
Concealed Weapon - It is illegal to carry a firearm,
deadly weapon, or dangerous ordnance anywhere
on the YMCA of Wooster’s property. Unless otherwise
authorized by law, no person shall knowingly possess,
have under the person’s control, convey, or attempt to
convey a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance onto
these premises.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The YMCA of Wooster is committed to providing
assistance through “scholarship” programs and
memberships to any youth or family with a true
financial need. Funds made available for financial
assistance are provided through United Way, YMCA
fundraising, and grants.

Cancelled Programs -- 100% refund or amount may
be credited towards another course. Once credit is
chosen, no refunds are made.
