Month of November: We are in the second half of this
autumn month with winter weather. We continue to remember the deceased in our prayers in a special way.
While seemingly so far from, us, they are indelibly
etched into our hearts, and we trust that they bring us
closer to God. Then as we go further into this autumn
month we think more and more of the Thanksgiving
Feast; as we prepare for this joyous day may our hearts
and minds be filled with praise and thanks to God who
fills the earth with the good gifts of life. Then Advent/
Christmas is appearing more and more on the horizon.
Above all remember we soon celebrate the coming of
God’s goodness into our lives; may our pre-Christmas
activities be filled with a sharing of God’s goodness.
New Archbishop in Chicago: Bishop Blase Cupich will
be installed as the new Archbishop of Chicago this
Tues., Nov. 18th. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska in
1949 and raised in that city. After his ordination to the
priesthood in 1975, he held a number of prestigious positions and was ordained as Bishop of Rapid City, South
Dakota in 1998 and installed as Bishop of Spokane,
Washington in 2010. He now comes to Chicago. His installation as Archbishop is of special interest to our
Croatian people since all of his grandparents were born
in Croatia; they migrated to Omaha where they, their
children and their grandson, Blase, were members of SS.
Peter and Paul Croatian Parish in that city. We remember
him in our prayers and wish him much success as he begins his new ministry as Archbishop of Chicago.
Children in our Quad-Parish Religious Education Program
Last Sunday we gave a breakdown of the number in our Mary Queen of Saints Catholic Academy. Our public school
children and teen s have heir classes as part of our Quad-Parish Religious Education Program (St. Rita, St. Florian,
Holy Assumption and St. Augustine). Classes are held at St. Rita’s. There are 54 children in grades 1 to 8 and 31 teens
in grades 9 to 11. St. Augustine has 8 children in grades 1 to 8 and 10 teens in grades 9 to 11. We hope and pray they
are growing in the faith through these sessions. Students, teachers and parents work together in this faith activity!
