Basilica of St John Lateran (San Giovanni in Laterano)
This is the oldest, and ranks first among the four great
"patriarchal" basilicas of Rome. The site was, in ancient times,
occupied by the palace of the family of the Laterani The palace
came eventually into the hands of Constantine, the first Christian
emperor. Constantine must have given it to the Church in the
time of Miltiades, not later than about 311.
The basilica of Saint John Lateran was built under pope Melchiade (311-314), it’s the most ancient church in the world. Due to
the fact that the pope is also the bishop of Rome, Saint John in
Lateran – being seat of the bishop’s residence – is also Rome’s
Cathedral.
The present structure of the Basilica resembles the Saint Peter's
basilica. The original plan had already five aisles. The ancient
church was residence of the popes until the coming back from
the exile in Avignone (1377), when it was moved to the Vatican.

November 9th Tonight, “Ask, Seek, and Knock” is the
first of a two-part series. This week we will introduce prayer
as a vital part of our relationship with Christ. The teens will

teens this week to keep up with their prayer plan, and if
possible, join them in their daily commitments.
November 16th, “Ask, Seek, and Knock” is the second
in the two-part series. The goal of the second part is to
discuss the challenges and success the teens faced in their
prayer during the week. You do not have to have been here
in part 1 to benefit from part 2.
