ECASD AND COMMUNITY INFORMATION
FROM THE ECASD: TIMELY DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Keeping it Safe and Healthy (Pointers from Our Health and Safety Office)
Here are some tips to keep in mind in getting the kids ready for trick-ortreating next week:
1.
Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if
possible, choose light colors.
2. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.
3. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them be seen by drivers.
4. When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.
5. When shopping for costumes, wigs and accessories look for and purchase those with a label clearly
indicating they are flame resistant. If a sword, cane or stick is a part of your child's costume, make sure
it is not sharp or too long. A child may be easily hurt by these accessories if he stumbles or trips.
6. Do not use decorative contact lenses without an eye examination and a prescription from an eye care
professional. While the packaging on decorative lenses will often make claims such as “one size fits all,”
or “no need to see an eye specialist,” obtaining decorative contact lenses without a prescription is both
dangerous and illegal. This can cause pain, inflammation and serious eye disorders and infections,
which may lead to permanent vision loss.
7. Teach children how to call 9-1-1 (or their local emergency number) if they have an emergency or
become lost.
More tips on how to trick-or-treat safely coming in next week’s announcements.
SPEAKING OF HALLOWEEN: Cash for Candy Offered at Regis Court Dental
Regis Court Dental will buy back Halloween candy collected trick-or-treating for $1 per pound at their offices
at 1102 Regis Court in Eau Claire. Once candy is collected, it’s shipped to Operation Gratitude, a non-profit out
of California, which repackages the candy along with other items into care packages to be sent to troops
around the world. Last year, Regis Court sent more than 300 pounds of donated candy to Operation Gratitude.
