A note from Principal Melissa Olson…
PRIDE, Respect, and Responsibility
Dear Roosevelt Families,
Happy New Year! We are off and running into 2015. During the month of
January we will continue to focus on our academic goals at Roosevelt. The
teachers are working together to look at assessment data and collaborating with
one another around our reading and math goals. On January 26th, the teachers
have a professional development day. This is a no school day for students but a
day for teachers to learn and grow professionally as we work towards providing
a quality education for our students.
Not only are we focused on academic goals at Roosevelt, we are also all about
educating the whole child and meeting their social and emotional needs. One
way we do this is to have outdoor recess breaks….even in during those cold
months! Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor
recess. Students are outside for at least 30 minutes during the day. Please be
sure that your child has a hat, mittens, a warm coat, boots, and snow pants.
Please make sure those items are labeled with your child’s name. You wouldn’t
believe how many pairs of black snow pants we have in the lost and found! If
there is snow and a child is not wearing boots and snow pants, he/she will need
to stay on the blacktop area. We go outside each day for recess unless the
temperature is below zero and/or the wind chill is -10 degrees or colder.
One last note, a special thank you to our PTA for organizing and running our
Holiday Store and SCRIP fundraiser! Thank you to those who helped during
the sales.
Have a great month!
Yours in Roosevelt PRIDE,
Melissa Olson

Are you still working on your 2014 New Year’s resolution? While we benefit from New Year's resolutions; our children can also learn a
lot about self-discipline and the value of making goals. Take this opportunity to teach your child to make healthy, attainable goals.
This activity should be fun and age-appropriate, without leading him/her to feel pressure to improve or change. Here are some
examples:
Make a new friend
Help someone in need
Try a new hobby
Eat three new foods
Write a letter to a family member
Explore a new place
The beginning of every year brings in new hope and enthusiasm. We look forward to the promise of the New Year in working with your
child and family!
Reminder for all Families in the Morning…
There is no supervision outside prior to 8:25 am. Only children who are eating breakfast are
allowed to enter the building at 8:15. All other kiddos should remain on the playground until
the bell rings at 8:35. Thanks for your morning help!
