PARISH OF SS PETER & PAUL - DONCASTER EAST Thirty Third Sunday In Ordinary Time Sunday, 16th November, 2014 OUR VISION We are a Catholic Community who profess, celebrate and witness that Jesus lives, and to whom the Father sends His Spirit. The Master has given the servants ‘talents’ and on his return they will be judged according to how they have used those talents and whether they have followed his instructions. The reference is to money, a standard measure used in the Near East and a very large sum indeed. In fact, each servant has been given a treasure. Two perform well but the third is paralysed by the fear of taking a risk and hides his talent away. His excuse is that he knew his Master was an exacting man and so he refused even to try. He condemns himself by not responding to the demands of the Master. This Gospel challenges us to drop our false notion of God as an exacting Master, to appreciate the gifts we have been given and to use and develop them for our good and the good of others. From the PA’s Desk... Something to mull over this week! (I love that word!) “When we hear the words ‘talent’ or ‘gift’ or ‘ability’ we quite often presume that we don’t have much to offer. As you go through this week, mull on the small things - that would show God’s love in your world. How you can use your smallest abilities, a smile, a word, a gesture to make another person’s life more pleasant. And after you have mulled on such things, make them real.” (prayasyoucan.com – Mulling Meditation) Blessings, Sr Lyn Weekday Masses & Feast Days: Monday 9.00 am Service of the Word with Communion St Elizabeth of Hungary Tuesday 9.00 am Mass Wednesday 9.00 am Mass Thursday 9.00 am Mass Friday 9.00 am Mass The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 12.00 noon Saturday 9.00 am Mass St Cecilia Baptisms We congratulate and welcome into our parish family through the sacrament of baptism, Our Prayers are asked for those who have died recently: Professor Nicholas Tonti-Filippini and for those whose anniversaries occur at this time: Mary Martin, Peter Blackburn, Theodora Lammers, Michael Craddock, Martin Kenny, Rosaria Biviano, Hilda Aiken, Sebastian Perera, Lionel Walker, Aileen Sullivan, Michelina Flammea, Joseph Hammond, Kit Harris, Gino Monasso and Anne-Marie Ring. Report of Parish Council Meeting held on 11th November, 2014 Des Carroll reported on progress towards having a “Men Alive” programme in the middle of 2015. We have a men’s group already, and by building on it, we can reach the number required for the “Men Alive Weekend.” In order to reach all our parishioners, we plan to have a preChristmas letter drop inviting people to “come back for Christmas”. We need to re-establish a maintenance team to coordinate what needs to be done. Finally, three nominations were suggested for the 2015 Menzies Community Australia Day Awards.
