CAPS FOR KIDS DAY

All proceeds benefit Caps for Kids, an international non-profit organization that gives caps signed by athletes and celebrities to
children battling cancer.
WHAT IS JUMP UP DAY?
On December 5, Salem will be doing a new activity called Jump Up Day. Each classroom will spend 1/2 of the day in the next grade.
This is a great opportunity for students to become familiar with the teaching staff here at Salem. For example, a 3rd grader will spend
half of the day in the 4th grade classroom with Mrs. Hasselquist. After lunch, classes will resume their regular schedules. We chose
this day because our 8th grade class will be “jumping up” to 9th grade by participating in Crusader for a Day at St. Croix Lutheran
High School. Our teachers are excited to meet their future students!

MESSAGES FROM OUR STUDENT TEACHERS
Dear Salem Family,
What a wonderful ten weeks it has been! Thank you so much for making me feel welcome. Everyone has been so kind and friendly
to me that I truly feel like a part of Salem. From teaching third grade to coaching volleyball, I have loved my experience here, and I
will miss everyone so much!
God’s blessings to all of you,
Miss Erin Kelly
To the Congregation of Salem,
I wanted to say thank you to everyone at Salem. I cannot thank all of you enough for making my last ten weeks here an enjoyable
experience. I want to thank Mr. Krause and the staff at Salem for allowing me to watch and learn from them. Thank you to the
parents for the welcoming environment, and raising the great kids I work with. Finally I want to thank the students I got the privilege
to work with over the last ten weeks. I will truly miss and never forget the kids at Salem Lutheran. Thank you for everything.
Mr. Benjamin Edmundson (Mr. E)
ST. CROIX LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL AMBASSADOR UPDATE - CHILDREN’S THEATER
“A Walk in the Woods”, Children’s Theatre at St. Croix Lutheran, Written by Zachary Fahrendorff, St. Croix Lutheran Ambassador
The days are getting shorter and the weather colder, but these things are not stopping the cast and directors of this year’s
Children’s Theatre from practicing hard for their upcoming play. “A Walk in the Woods” is a wonderful combination of some of the
fairy tales that we all know and love. These include classics like Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, and many more.
Student director Katie Kulik is excited to be part of the production. “I just really love theatre and since I was involved last year I knew
how much fun it would be,” she says. Katie also mentioned that her favorite part is the practices and how the actors make them so
enjoyable for her.
I hope you can all make it to this year’s play, whether with your class or your family. The cast will be performing on Friday,
November 21 at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for grade school groups, and then again on Saturday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m.
and 7:00 p.m. for families and the public.
I know that the actors will provide a great performance, and personally I can’t wait to go see it myself. Hope to see you all there!

regarding late starts or cancellations.
If we have a late start due to the weather, there will be NO Morning Care and NO AM

Class News
Grade 4 - Mrs. Hasselquist:
The past four weeks have zipped right along but we have made the most of them as a lot of
learning has taken place.
Our study of God’s Word focused on the response of people to Jesus’ teachings, either of
rejection or acceptance through the Holy Spirit. Martin Luther (a.k.a. Pastor Weigand) visited
our class on Reformation Day to review how God used him to bring souls back to the saving
message of the Gospel.
In Math we completed a multiplication and division concepts and facts unit. We enjoyed the
algebraic lessons and found out that we were quite good at evaluating variable expressions.
We practiced the Good Reader strategies of predicting, questioning while reading, and
identifying main idea and supporting details. Our latest book report was “Once Upon a Timeline”
which involved the creation of a timeline for the events that happened in the mystery book we
were required to read.
We finished a unit about economics in Social Studies and continued to do a lot of experiments
and activities as we learned about properties of matter and changes in matter.
There is a saying that “Time Flies.” We are inclined to believe that since it is already time to say
good-bye to Mr. Edmundson and Miss Kelly! You made Phy. Ed. so much fun! We will miss
you! May God bless you!
