Franklin’s Fundenberger & Rose-Hulman’s Miller
Claim Men’s Soccer MVPs
GREENWOOD, IN – Franklin College’s Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and RoseHulman Institute of Technology’s Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) have been named the 2014
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players.
Fundenberger helped guide the Grizzlies to an appearance in the HCAC tournament, while Miller helped the
Engineers earn the school’s second-straight HCAC men’s soccer tournament title.
Fundenberger led the Franklin offense this season, leading the team in points and goals. The junior forward scored
nine goals and added three assists to lead the Grizzlies scoring attack. In conference matches, Fundenberger led the
league with six goals and ranked second with 12 points scored in nine matches.
Miller earned Defensive MVP for his efforts this fall. The senior goalkeeper led the league in shutouts (13), save
percentage (.866), and goals against average (0.50) in 21 matches this fall. Rose-Hulman led the HCAC this season,
allowing only 11 goals in 21 matches, including 13 shutouts as a team.
Transylvania University’s Riley Calhoon (Lexington, Ky./Dunbar) has been selected as the 2014 HCAC
Freshman of the Year. Calhoon, a midfielder for the Pioneers, ranked second on the team with nine goals and five
assist this fall. The freshman ranked second in the HCAC in points (23) and goals scored (9).
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Sean Helliwell has been named the 2014 HCAC Coach of the Year,
earning his fifth honor as the head man for the Engineers. Helliwell has led Rose-Hulman to a 14-4-3 record this
season, earning the school’s fourth HCAC regular season and tournament crown.
Eleven players join Fundenberger, Miller, and Calhoon as First-Team All-HCAC members. Those players include
Anderson’s Todd Canal (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.), Brian Stout (Fr., Ypsilanti, Mich.), and Elliott Reiff (Sr.,
Indianapolis, Ind.), Earlham’s Jacob Ebbs (Jr., Brookline, Mass.), Hanover’s Matt Grau (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and
Drew Roberts (Sr., Goshen, Ky.), Rose-Hulman’s Ben Lyon (So., Westfield, Ind.) and Andrew Bartush (Sr.,
Granger, Ind.), and Transylvania’s Ben Rossoll (So., Bardstown, Ky.), Tate Spivey (Jr., Harrodsburg, Ky.), and
Daniel Mudd (Sr., Bardstown, Ky.).
