To help students do well on the test, you need to understand how and why we have Next Generation Assessments,
including the ‘job growth’ model which forms a basis for our new learning standards. We will look at the history and
common misconceptions of the new learning standards and assessments. We will also provide information to help
districts explain Ohio’s Next Generation Assessments to parents and community groups.

Ohio’s Next Generation testing.

Session 1
• Resources for Testing
Explore some of the best online sites for
questions and tools which will help
prepare students for testing. A handout
will include links to the best sites for Ohio
learners, including links to practice skills
and tools such as the protractor.
Recommended: Attend ’13 tips’ prior to
this session.
9:45-10:30
• Discovering the Questions
Learn the major question types, how
they are scored, how these compare
with those on the OAA/OGT, and how
you can help teachers in your district
prepare for test day. We will highlight
key features of the PARCC tutorial, and
learn how to find resources specific to
each content area and grade level.

TEACH Your Staff!
Experience first-hand a PD session you
can provide your teachers – especially
those most reluctant to embrace online
test tools. You WILL learn strategies
that will help student performance.
Included is a handout you can reproduce
for your staff meeting.

Session 3
during the review process, what parts of
review can be classroom based and
what must be ‘on-the-device’, and how to
schedule testing to allow time for
‘recovery’ between sessions.

• 1:1 Implementation Timeline
Preparing students for careers – and
the test – usually leads to consideration
of a 1:1 laptop program. Discover what
works and what doesn’t when it comes
to 1:1, and receive a recommended
timeline which includes professional
development and also online testing
preparation recommendations.
