CHILD CARE
SAFE ‘N SOUND (Grades K-5)
KIDS DAYS OFF -
The Safe ‘n Sound program provides before- and after-school care
for children entering grades K-5. This program was designed with
both the child and parent in mind. Parents can go to work with
ease knowing their children are safe during those out-of-school
hours; and children can enjoy spending the additional time with
their peers. One of the best features of this program is that it is
conveniently located in schools within Districts 41, 89 and 200. If
your child’s school does not have an on-site program, our YMCA
serves as a main location and we provide transportation to and
from area elementary schools in Districts 41 and 200.
Does your child have a day off from school and needs a place to
go or something to do? We’ve got you covered! Kids Days Off, an
extension of our Safe ‘n Sound program, runs on days when there is
no school for children to attend. Whether you are a participant of
Safe ‘n Sound or a community member looking for something fun for
your child to do, our programs are open to children in grades K-5.
Each day includes a field trip followed by movies, crafts, swimming,
recreational activities and group games. Don’t let your child spend
their days off sitting on the couch, come out and join us for the fun!
Please remember to pack a lunch and a swimsuit for the day.
This unique program focuses on the Y’s four core values of caring,
honesty, respect and responsibility. Safe ‘n Sound provides an
environment, role models and activities that are conducive to
developing these core values. Our program is developed so that
your child has opportunities to use play as their primary source
of discovery through a variety of age-appropriate themes and
activities. In addition, our schedule allows time for homework,
snack, free time, group games, recreational activities and character
development.
Participants must be at the Y by 8:30 am as some field trips will
depart at 9:00 am.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
SWIM
PRESCHOOL AQUATICS (3-5 years)
YOUTH AQUATICS (6-12 years)
Our instructors combine support and instruction to achieve the goal
of teaching comfort, confidence and safety in and around the water.
This section of lessons begins teaching entry level skills for older
children and leads up to a more competitive stroke development while
still addressing water safety and pool rules.
Pike - Beginning level of swim lessons where the child is alone in
the class with no parents. Typically, children ages range from 3-4
years depending on skill level. They will work on floating and start
the swimming process. They will also play games and get used to the
water in the small pool.
Eel - Kids will learn how to use their arms for swimming freestyle
while beginning rotary breathing and flutter back scull. Kids gain
endurance by swimming the whole length of the pool.
Ray - Ray advances the students encouraging endurance and swimming
without a float belt. By the end of the level, kids will be able to swim
the whole length of the pool and will begin to learn freestyle and back
strokes, preparing them for youth aquatics.
Polliwog - A beginner level class generally for ages 6-10 years. Kids
continue to learn core swimming skills as they focus on swimming
without a float belt and building endurance.
Guppy - This level focuses on endurance and technique. Kids will go
from swimming lengths to swimming laps and from learning general
parts of a stroke to learning about the fundamentals of that stroke.
Minnow - In this level kids start to get their strokes down. They should
know freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and flutter back and be able
to swim multiple laps.
Fee: $73. Members

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
VOLUNTEERISM & GIVING
VOLUNTEERISM
GIVING BACK
The Y was founded by a volunteer, and we continue to be governed
by volunteers. A great many of our programs for children and families
are only possible because of the incredible people in our community
who volunteer their time.
The B.R. Ryall YMCA is a 501(c)(3) cause-driven nonprofit organization
that strengthens the community through programs and services that
foster youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Contact us at [email protected]
We believe that lasting personal and social change can only happen
when we work together to invest in our kids, our health and our
neighbors. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause.
Every day, the B.R. Ryall YMCA works side by side with our neighbors
to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background,
has the opportunity to learn grow and thrive. We want all residents
of Northwestern DuPage County to have access to our programs and
facilities regardless of their ability to pay.
B.R. RYALL Y SERVICE CLUB
To accomplish that we need the support of our members and our
community. Together, we can provide life-changing experiences and
opportunities for children, teens, families and individuals.
When you are involved with the Y, you help bring about lasting
personal and social change. Whether you want to nurture the
potential of child and teens, improve your family’s health and wellbeing or give back and support your neighbors, your involvement
with the Y will positively impact those in your community.
The Y Service Club is part of an international organization that works
to help YMCAs and people reach their fullest potential. This includes
featured presentations, benevolent programs and fellowship activities.
All are welcome and Y membership is not a requirement. Come and
enjoy meeting other people and share in our desire to help the YMCA.
Join the Y Service Club the 2nd Tuesday of each month (Sept.-June)
for fun and interesting events. For more information contact Benno
Friedrich at 630.653.4971 or Pete Moore at 630.668.3861. All are
welcome!
