November 23, 2014 Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe 1914-2014 St. Mary Catholic Church Korona, Florida MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Friends in Christ, In a Bible class, two men were called upon to recite the Twenty-Third Psalm. One was an accomplished speaker, trained in the techniques of speech and drama. He intoned the Psalm with great beauty and power. When he had finished, his audience applauded with enthusiasm and asked him to repeat the verses that they might again hear his wonderful rendition. Then the second man recited the same words, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want ” But when he finished, not a sound came from his audience. Instead, the people sat quietly, in a deep mood of prayer and devotion. Then the first man rose and said, “I have a confession to make. The difference between what you have just heard from my friend and what you heard from me is that I know the Psalm; my friend knows the Shepherd.” The parable of the Last Judgment in today’s Gospel confronts us head-on with one of the greatest paradoxes of our faith. It is one which many of us have yet to grasp even though we have been members of the Church all our lives. To put it as simply as possible: the very best way to know and experience the presence of the Lord who is our Shepherd, the very best way to make the inward journey to God, is through the outward journey to others. Or, as one of the early Church Fathers put it centuries ago, “The prodigal son cannot fully experience the Father’s love until he has walked the Jericho Road with the Good Samaritan.” “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” Peace, Fr. Slawomir ST. MARY CHURCH – KORONA Thank you for being with us today! If you are a new parishioner, please introduce yourself to the priest or an usher and obtain a census card. St. Mary’s Christmas Giving Tree St. Mary’s Christmas Giving Tree is a special event in our parish. It is our intention that every needy child receives a gift on Christmas Day. The “Giving Tree” will remain in place until December 14th. At that time all the gifts will be distributed. Our giving tree includes a list from the Battered Women Center, St. Anne’s Pantry, Outreach and a small group of elderly from area Nursing Homes. FOR FIRST TIMERS: 1. Take a star/ball from the tree. It will have the gender, age and wish. 2. There is no limit to the number of stars/balls you may take. 3. Replace the star/ball with a red ball which is provided for you in the basket under the tree. 4. If you find that the item you chose is too expensive, either return it to the tree for another or replace the gift listed with a gift certificate within your budget. 5 . Return the gift with the star/ball attached (VERY IMPORTANT) to the package and place under the tree. Santa will do the rest. Our parish is such a special one and we know the Lord looks down on us and blesses any kindness given to the poor and needy. Thank you all in advance for your generosity at this most beautiful time of the year. For information, please call Kathy Hadden at (386) 864-7473 or (386) 338-4002.
