WELCOME! You are most welcome to Sacred Heart Church.
Parish registration forms are available in the Gathering Space
and at the Parish Office. If you are moving out of the parish,
please notify us.
SACRAMENTAL MINISTRY
BAPTISMS: Saturdays at noon and within the celebration of
Mass (except during Lent). Parents are required to attend a
Preparation Class held on the 2nd Monday of the month. Please
call the Religious Education Office to arrange for both
Preparation Class and Baptism.
RECONCILIATION: Confessions are heard on Saturdays from
5:15-5:45p.m. (Little Church) and by appointment. Parish
Reconciliation Services are held during Advent and Lent.
MARRIAGE: Couples planning to be married should contact a
priest or deacon at least six months before the anticipated date.
All engaged couples must take a Marriage Preparation Course.
Do not set a date until you have met with the priest or deacon.
COMMUNION TO THE SICK: If someone is in the hospital or
homebound and unable to attend Mass and wishes to receive
communion, please contact the Parish Office. Mass is
celebrated at FutureCare-Cherrywood Nursing Home on the 2nd
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK: In case of emergency call the Parish
Office/Rectory at anytime. Please notify the Parish Office if you
know someone in the hospital or at home who wishes to be
anointed. Masses of Anointing are celebrated several times a
year.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS/RITO DE LA
INITIACION CRISIANA DE LOS ADULTOS: RCIA/RICA prepares
adults (English and Spanish speaking) for full communion in the
Catholic Church. Sessions meet year round on Monday evenings
at 7:00 p.m. Call the Parish Office for information.

The Lord Jesus is our shepherd (Ps). At the end, at his
coming, he will hand over the kingdom to his Father
(2). He will “judge between one sheep and another,
between rams and goats” (1), between those who have
lived their lives for others, and those who have lived
for themselves (3).

LA UNIDAD ENTRE LOS FELIGRESES
Ustedes pueden trabajar por la unidad cuando tratan de
entablar amistad con otras familias católicas. En
algunas parroquias existen las comunidades
parroquiales que "crean mayor interrelación personal,
aceptación de la palabra de Dios, revisión de la vida y
reflexión sobre la realidad a la luz del evangelio; se
acentúan, el compromiso con la familia, con el barrio,
y con la comunidad local"(Puebla, 447). El Reino de
Dios se inicia en las familias y en las comunidades. Es
en estas donde nacen y se fomentan los líderes del
futuro.
En el área metropolitana, unos 500 grupos fueron
organizados. Al poner su atención a la fe y al evangelio
estos católicos se dieron cuenta de lo que la fe que
comparten significaba para ellos. El organizador de
estos grupos fue el Arzobispo de Cracovia, el cardinal
Wojtila, quien más tarde se convirtió en el papa Juan
Pablo II
Un último ejemplo de cómo podemos esforzarnos por
conseguir las unidades promedio del examen de la vida
parroquial. Esto lo pueden hacer cuando se reúnen en
familia para meditar las Sagradas Escrituras,
especialmente cuando se usan las Epístolas de Pablo.
Las Parroquias de hoy son muy parecidas a las
comunidades cristianas a las cuales Pablo dirigió. Su
primera carta a los Corintios, por ejemplo, la pudo ver
escrito a muchas parroquias de hoy. Su carta a los
Gálatas llama a la fe y a la unidad. Su carta a los
Filipenses es lo que toda parroquia necesita porque
menciona la alegría y la solidaridad. Descubran las
normas que Pablo expone para la unidad de la vida de
su parroquia.
Hay otros muchos grupos en las parroquias que se
preocupan por la evangelización de las familias como
son el Movimiento familiar Cristiano y Encuentro
Matrimoniales. Ambos movimientos han ayudado a
mejorar la vida de muchas familias. Si su familia puede
participar en las actividades de estos grupos
encontraran un gran apoyo para las tareas más difíciles
de la vida familiar.
Además de estos grupos especializados, hay otros
grupos que también evangelizan a las familias. Los
grupos carismáticos, los cursillos de cristiandad y los
movimientos catecúmenas.

Prayerful Sing Along
Please join us for songs, prayers, fellowship, and
refreshments at the Prayerful Sing Along, on Friday,
November 21, 2014 from 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM in the
Mother Seton Room. Our theme is "Giving Thanks to
God for our Many Gifts." Child care is provided. The
children watch movies about the saints, color pictures
for senior citizens, and play games and then they join
us for Bible songs, fellowship, and refreshments.

Christian Formation and Evangelization
DO YOU KNOW why we celebrate the feast of Christ
the King? This solemnity was established by Pope
Pius XI in 1925. It celebrates an aspect of Jesus’
identity rather than an event in his life and is thus
classed among the “idea feasts” (another example
would be Holy Family Sunday).
Originally celebrated in October, it was moved to the
last Sunday in Ordinary Time in the 1960s. It
celebrates Christ’s reign over all things.
By instituting this feast, Pius XI hoped to renew the
faith of the people which had suffered from the
secularism and atheism of his day. Next Sunday (the
feast of Christ the King) marks the end of Ordinary
Time and the Church Year. On November 29/30 we
begin a new liturgical year with the First Sunday of
Advent.
The Church Year, our Liturgical Year, ends next
Sunday. Ordinary Time (that part of the liturgical year
when no particular moment or aspect of the Christian
mystery is celebrated) concludes with the feast of
Christ the King.
As the Church year comes to its end, our thoughts turn
to the end of all time. The faithful Christian reflects
not with fear but with confident hope that Christ will
come again as the supreme ruler over all.

Sacred Heart School
To Our Fellow Parishioners!
In the week of November 3rd, we had our third school
Mass of the year. One of our students who had been
recently baptized chose to receive her first Communion
Mass. Her faith and joy in the Sacrament truly inspired
me, and she shared a tremendous gift with our entire
school by allowing us to witness her first time
receiving Jesus in Holy Communion. What a blessing!
Reflecting on these Masses, I am also struck by part of
scripture, Matthew 19:30, when Christ says, “but many
who are first will be last, and the last will be first.” Our
three Masses have been celebrated by both Monsignor
Aiken and Father Hamilton. You would be so inspired
to see them at these times. Both of these spiritual
fathers for our community come to the Mass with a
particular joy, and their homilies take place out in the
pews, among our children. They have shown such
exuberance to be with our children that I am inspired
and humbled. It’s amazing to see our young people
respond to them, and so many have bravely answered
questions about the Gospel and participated in the
homily. These are powerful moments, beautiful
moments.
Expanding on this, the more I have learned about the
jobs of all of our religious, I am stunned by the sheer
volume of their workload. Sister Jude helped organize
these Masses, Sister Cecilia prepares our children for
First Communion, and Sister Karen has been an
integral part by assisting our second graders. Deacon
Carlos has visited our classes to pray with them most
Mondays. Each of our religious, including those I have
not named, have worked many days with hours along
the lines of 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Their work ethic is
incredible, and they truly help me to encounter Christ
in our world, as I know they do for all of us.
Perhaps it is in the nature of those who most
authentically follow Christ to be the last in terms of
them receiving thanks and praise. This week, let’s
change that and deliberately thank these holy men and
women in our community for all they have given to us,
for all they do to show us God’s abundant love. Please
join with me in this amazing opportunity.
May God’s grace be tangibly with your family this

Thanksgiving Class Schedule
This year, we will have a holiday break from our
Religious Education classes on the days before
Thanksgiving: November 23 and 24 (Sunday and
Monday). We will return to class on the days after
Thanksgiving: November 30 and December 1
(Sunday and Monday).\
Giving Hearts and Hands Needed
During the month of November, we are collecting:
• Used children’s books in good shape. (They will be
shared at Our Daily Bread for homeless children.)
• Knit or crocheted gloves, hats, and scarves for
children of all ages. (They will be shipped to Alaska
where a nun in Sister Cecilia’s community ministers.)
• Donations will be collected until November 30.
• Collection boxes will be located next to the Religious
Education closet (in the school building) on Sunday
mornings and Monday evenings. Thank you in
advance for your generosity!
7th and 8th Grade Service Project
For their Thanksgiving and Advent service project, our
7th and 8th grade Religious Education students will
spend time making cards for soldiers who are far away
from their homes and families. Thank you for sharing
the light of Christ with those who help to protect us!
Sunday Nursery
Would you like someone to watch your toddlers so that
you and others can fully appreciate Mass without
distractions? A free nursery service (child care) is
available on most Sunday mornings for children under
the age of three years old from 10:15 - 11:30 AM in

There will be NO nursery on November 23.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is celebrated
most Sundays during 9:00 AM Mass for children age 4
through 3rd grade. Children are dismissed with a
catechist after the opening prayer and return before the
consecration. Children participate in an interactive,
age-appropriate liturgy that helps them understand and
integrate God's word in their young lives. No
registration is necessary! There will be NO CLOW on
November 30.
Social Justice
St. Vincent de Paul Society
The St. Vincent de Paul Society will meet Monday,
November 17, 1014 at 6:15 PM in Room 221.
Abortion Healing Ministry
God’s mercy is an offer of new life! A confidential

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer Shawls are made for folks who are
seriously ill or have a serious disability.
Our Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet on
the first and third Tuesday of November
in the Room 105 from 1:00-2:00PM. If you are
interested in helping to crochet or knit or would like to
learn either of these skills, or would like a prayer shawl

STAND / Shield the Vulnerable
ATTENTION all volunteers for Sacred Heart Parish
and School – The STAND requirements for all
volunteers has recently changed. Please go to our
parish website at http://www.shgparish.org/standnew.aspx for instructions regarding these changes and
requirements,

volunteer for Sacred Heart Parish or School. Many
have asked how long it takes to be STAND Certified.
There is a minimum processing time of 3-4 weeks for
all new volunteers, and 2-3 weeks for volunteers
seeking renewal.

Boy Scout Troop 706
Boy Scout Troop 706 wishes everyone an early Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year! To help you
prepare for the holiday season Troop 706 will be
holding our annual Christmas Wreath Sales fundraiser
after every Mass on November 29 & 30, and
December 6 & 7, 2014. We are offering decorated
balsam, mixed evergreen and boxwood wreaths,
evergreen door swags and charms, and white pine
garland. Please consider supporting the Troop and
spreading holiday cheer through your purchase. For

Best Years
Seniors are also invited to join the Group at the lunch
bunch for November which will meet at the Olive
Garden in Owings Mills at noon on Thursday,
November 20. Following the lunch, members are
invited to a tour of Charles Anderson’s Holly Garden.
Those interested can sign up at the meeting or contact
Stan Behnken. Carol McCurley is organizing a
Christmas trip to Washington, DC. The group will
lunch at Union Station and then visit the National
Arboretum, the National tree, and the Mormon
Temple, as well as view lights throughout the Capital.
The trip will leave Sacred Heart at 11:00 AM and
return by 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2014.
The cost will be $25 due by the November 5 meeting.

The Best Years Group will support Sacred Heart’s
sister parish in Appalachia, St. Therese, but donating
Food Lion gift cards at the November meeting. Gift
cards can be purchased at Food Lion or through the
SCRIP program located in Room 104 after Masses. If
members use the SCRIP program, they should mention
that they are supporting St. Therese through the Best
Years Group. The SCRIP program also benefits Sacred
Heart School. Additional information about the Best
Years activities can be found on the Sacred Heart web
site.
Mom's Fellowship Group
Interested in meeting other moms in the parish? Please
join Sacred Heart's new Mom's Fellowship Group. We
meet every Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Mother Seton

The Frederick M. Gossman
Memorial High School Scholarship
Designed to assist those Brother Knights holding
membership in councils within the jurisdiction of
Maryland in paying tuition for their sons and daughters
at accredited Catholic High Schools; three grants of
$1,500 per year, for up to four years, will be awarded.
Awards will be made on the basis of academic
excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need.
The children of deceased members are also eligible,
provided the member was in good standing at the time
of death.
The William J. O’Brien Jr., Memorial Scholarship
Three grants of $1,500 per year for up to four years
will be awarded. This program is open to any Catholic
student who is a resident of the state of Maryland to
include children and grandchildren of a member of a
Knights of Columbus council within the jurisdiction of
Maryland. Applicants must have been officially
accepted at or must be students at accredited Catholic
High Schools.
Applications will be judged on
academic excellence, personal qualifications, and
financial need.

Discernment Days
Region IV of the National Religious Vocations
Conference invites young adults, who may be
discerning life choices, to join us for some morning
retreat experiences for young adults. Time: 9:00 AM to
12 noon, with an optional mass being celebrated prior
to the gatherings at 8:30 AM. Two short presentations
will be made on “Discernment” and “Listening to
Prayer Using the Word of God.” With time for
reflection, shared prayer, and discussion with local
men and women religious. Bring your Bible. Dates and

“The Butler Did It”
Delone Catholic High School proudly presents "The
Butler Did It" - a comedic murder mystery. The
performances are Friday, November 21st at 7:30 PM,
Saturday, November 22nd at 7:30 PM. and Sunday,
November 23 at 2:30 PM in the Old Gym. Admission
