In the Rankings
The Bruins are currently ranked No. 6 overall in the
NSCAA Coaches Poll and No. 2 overall in the Soccer
America Poll. San Diego State remains unranked in all
major polls.
Scouting the Aztecs
San Diego State enters the weekend with a record of
7-11-0 and 1-8-0 in the Pac-12 conference. The Aztecs
are winless on the road this season, posting a record of
0-6-0. SDSU enters the weekend losers of five-straight,
being out-scored 9-3 over that span. In their last
game on Nov. 2, the Aztecs took the No. 8/2 Stanford
Cardinal to overtime after the two teams played to a
scoreless draw in regulation. However, eight minutes
into overtime SDSU conceded a goal to Austin Meyer
of Stanford to end their hopes of a second conference
win. The Aztecs are led offensively by freshman David
Olsen who has accumulated 15 points, on seven goals
and one assist in 18 games. Sophomore Forrayah Bass
is the only other Aztec in double-digit points with 10
in 15 games. In net, redshirt freshman Adam Allmaras
has started all 18 games for SDSU, posting a 1.43 goals
against average and four shutouts.
UCLA holds an all-time record of 37-4-11 against San
Diego State. The Bruins have not lost to the Aztecs since
Oct. 6, 2007, going 14 straight matches without a defeat.
Additionally, UCLA has won nine straight matches over
San Diego State, including their previous matchup this
season, which ended 1-0 in favor of the Bruins. UCLA is
12-1-6 in 18 matches versus the Aztecs since they joined
the Pac-12 conference in 2005.
Bruins Look for Conference Crown
The Bruins have the opportunity this weekend to claim
their fifth Pac-12 Conference championship in the last
seven years. UCLA currently sits one point behind Stanford for the lead in the conference standings, with each
team playing their final regular season game on Sunday.
For the Bruins to claim the out-right title, they must
defeat San Diego State and Stanford must either draw
or lose to Cal. UCLA can also be named co-champions
with Stanford if the Bruins draw with San Diego State,
Stanford loses to Cal and Washington draws or loses to
Oregon State.
Honoring the Senior Class
Earl Edwards Jr. is a goalkeeper hailing from San Diego,
California. Joining the program in 2010 from Bradenton
Prep Academy, he has amassed 55 career starts and is
currently 12 saves away from fifth place on the UCLA alltime career saves list. Edwards Jr. has been voted team
captain for three-straight years and has led the Bruins
to the NCAA Tournament in each season, including a
College Cup appearance in 2011. The 2013 First Team
All-Pac-12 selection has accumulated 18 career shutouts,
including a Pac-12 best seven so far this season. In his 17
starts this year, Edwards Jr. has posted a conference low
0.78 goals against average. A multiple-time member of
the UCLA Director’s Honor Roll, he is looking to finish
up his degree in History.
Alex Padilla is a senior goalkeeper from Compton,
California that has been a part of the program since
2011. An alumnus of California Academy of Mathematics & Science, he has been a member of three-straight
tournament teams, including the 2011 squad which
made an appearance in the College Cup. Serving as a
primary reserve for the Bruins, he has been instrumental
in the development of a deep stable of goalkeepers for
UCLA. Excelling in the classroom, Padilla is a Political
Science major and a multiple-time member of the UCLA
Director’s Honor Roll.
Aaron Simmons is a defender who joined the program
in 2013 after spending his first two years at Sothern
Methodist University. A native of Mansfield, Texas, he
tallied three goals and contributed to seven shutouts in
his inaugural year with the Bruins, leading them to the
NCAA Tournament last season. Starting 17 of the team’s
20 games, his efforts earned him Second Team All-Pac-12
honors in 2013. So far this year, Simmons has scored two
goals and contributed to another seven shutouts in 18
games. He is looking to finish his degree in Sociology.

Former UCLA All-American Jorge Salcedo
is in his 11th season as head coach for the
Bruins, making him the second-longest
tenured men’s soccer head coach in
UCLA’s NCAA history.
A product of UCLA’s strong soccer tradition, Salcedo has maintained the Bruins’
standard for success, winning six conference titles and guiding his teams to NCAA
Tournament appearances each year. He
signed the No. 1 recruiting classes in the
nation in 2010, 2006 and 2004, and those
players produced results, advancing all
the way to the NCAA Championship
game in the 2006 season, to the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010, and to the College
Cup Semifinals in 2011. Salcedo then
repeated the feat, signing the top-ranked
recruiting classes in both 2013 and 2014.
