November 2014 Spring Ridge Review Spring Ridge Elementary Elkhorn Schools Omaha, NE Calendar of Events Monday, November 3 PTO Meeting - 7:00 pm A Message from Mrs. Petersen Dear Spring Ridge Families! Congratulations to the Spring Ridge parents! Attendance at our Parent/ Teacher Conferences was 99 percent! Your support is greatly appreciated. There is a strong connection between parent involvement and your child’s success in school. We look forward to continued communication with you throughout the year. We are already 56 days into the 2014-15 school year. We have had a terrific first quarter. The excitement of learning continues and relationships continue to grow. As we near our Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to share some things that I am thankful for at Spring Ridge Elementary: I am thankful for students who eagerly come to school to learn as much as is possible each day. I am thankful for a beautiful school where students can come to learn and grow. I am thankful for teachers and staff who give many hours of their days to provide students with the instruction and guidance needed to help students succeed. I am thankful for parents who support the efforts of our school. I am thankful for our parent and community volunteers who provide countless hours volunteering to help make our school a true community. The Spring Ridge staff and I are truly grateful for the overwhelming support that you have given us as we work together to educate the children of our community. Katrina Venn [email protected] Makeup Days for Missed School Days (Snow Days) As we approach the winter months, it is important to note a change to the EPS calendar from past years. The Elkhorn Board of Education has built in two makeup days to the calendar in the event that school is canceled due to inclement weather (snow days). The first makeup day is scheduled for April 17, 2015. This date will become a vacation day if there are no missed school days prior to April 1. If there are two or more missed school days prior to April 1, students will also have a makeup day on May 22, 2015. This day will become a vacation day if there are one or fewer missed days prior to April 1—moving the last day of school to May 21. The first two missed days will be made up; in the event of three or more snow days the administration will reevaluate the calendar at that time. Page 4 Spring Ridge Review Report, Fall Book Fair 2014 I am pleased to report that the fall 2014 Spring Ridge book fair was a success! Estimated gross sales were $12,346 (surpassing last year's school record of $12,200). As a result of the tremendous support of our school community, we will have the means to supports library programs such as: author visits, Golden Sower program, online databases, subscription renewals; as well as to purchase new books and materials. Through the “King or Queen for a Day” contest, we have raised additional money used to purchase library books from the book fair for classrooms as well as the library. Scholastic matches it by donating an equal amount of books to two charities that help children: Kids in Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. The final “winning” teacher was Mrs. Haynes, who was “crowned” on Halloween! Over 29 volunteers provided over 61 hours of service to set up, run, and take down the book fair. A special thank you to Mrs. Omo who went above and beyond to give of her time and talent! Additional thank you’s go out to all the volunteers: Erika Ohlmeyer, Teresa Svoboda, Margie Cimino, Kristen Gideon, Kristin Piatowski, Melanie Nielsen, Nancy Schultz, Summer Franco, Jenny Haase, Trish Kathol, Brenda Kougang, Richelle Donner, Lori Doyle, Linda Grier, Kathy Rygg, Beena Burg, Staci Grier, Danielle Tyler, Ronna Fritz, Paula Grupe, Karamie Vala, Jenny Williams, Julie Whalen, Camas Lubberstedt, Mindy Foral, and Christy Croom. We could not have done it without you! Submitted by Kelly Nelson, book fair chair Page 5 Spring Ridge Elementary A Wonderful Start to Autumn at Spring Ridge Dear Parents, October was a VERY BUSY month at Spring Ridge!
