EVANGELII GAUDIUM (THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL) “More than fear of going astray, my hope is that we will be moved by the fear of remaining shut up within structures which give us a false sense of security, within rules which make us harsh judges, within habits which make us feel safe, while at our door people are starving and Jesus does not tire of saying to us “Give them something to eat”. #49 ADVENT Next Sunday 30 November is the beginning of the Church’s new Liturgical Year; it is the first Sunday of Advent. In our Sunday Lectionary we begin the year “B” cycle of readings, that mainly feature the Gospel of Mark. “Advent has a twofold character, for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a time when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time. For these two reasons, Advent is a period of devout and expectant delight.” GNLYC 39 ARE YOU COMING? This coming Saturday 29 November is our fourth and last working bee for the year. There is much to be done to get everything ready for Advent and Christmas. As the saying goes “Many hands make light work”. Come and join your fellow parishioners anytime between 8.30am and noon. You can make a difference. POPE FRANCIS – DAILY MEDITATIONS Do you know that the Vatican Press Office publishes a summary of Pope Francis’ daily homilies? The summary is less than an A4 size; but they are well worth reading. Simply go to the Vatican site www.vatican.va and scroll onto “Daily Meditations”. Don’t forget to request the English translation. Alternatively you can go to our web site www.resparish.org and follow the link. RAFFLE TICKETS – GET YOURS NOW!!! Resurrection Parish is conducting a Christmas hamper Raffle, with all proceeds raised going directly to our parish. Tickets are $2.00 each, and the raffle will be drawn on the 15th December. The winner will be advertised in our weekly bulletin. CCI has kindly donated this hamper prize to our parish, valued over RRP $150.00. Parish Ministry How will you serve? Serving others is central to being a Christian. It is recorded John’s Gospel that after Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet he said, “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet” (Jn. 13:14). The word “Ministry” comes from a Latin word meaning service. Every Christian should take this instruction of Jesus seriously. Most Catholics serve others by participating in a ministry in their parish. Are you following Jesus’ instruction? In what way do you serve? It does not matter if you are new to Resurrection or you have been here for a long time, there is a ministry for you. Please read the description of each Resurrection Ministry in the Big Bulletin and then make a one year commitment to at least one Ministry. Complete the attached form and return to the Parish Office or Welcome Desk. st All Ministries commence 1 February 2015. CAR BLESSINGS Parishioners from time to time ask Fr Noel to bless their new car. Fr Noel is more than happy to bless cars. However whilst after Mass might be the best time for parishioners, it is not the best time for Fr Noel. One only has to stand back and look at the number of parishioners who approach Fr Noel after Mass to realize the pressure he is under at that time. Should you wish to have your car (or home) blessed the best thing to do is contact the Parish Office and make an appointment (Saturday mornings and Monday and Thursday evenings are usually good). CHRISTMAS PARTY st rd Each year on the 1 Wednesday of December (3 December this year) instead of having our Parish Meeting Night we have a Christmas party. This is an opportunity for all parishioners who are committed to a Parish Group, a Parish Ministry, or who help in any way whatsoever (Working Bees, delivering Christmas and Easter brochures etc.) to come together to meet, greet, share and celebrate the great spirit that is Resurrection Parish. If joining your other Resurrection parishioners for this fun night you are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share. CHEWING GUM Please do not chew chewing gum in church and do not allow your children to do so. Even a casual look at the carpet, the concrete near the church doors or an inspection of the underside of the chairs will make the reason for this request clear. HAVE YOU SEEN JOHN XXIII? Would the parishioners who borrowed the book John XXlll by Peter Hebblethwaite and the DVD Babette’ Feast from Fr Noel kindly return them. Stewardship Corner – thoughts on Giving. “…as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me” ~ Matthew 25:40 Most of us are generous when it’s convenient for us. We are generous when we have the time or the money. But generosity is the opposite of that. It means giving of one’s time, money, compassion, forgiveness, mercy when it’s not convenient; when it’s not on our schedule, but on the other person’s schedule. Prayers of the Faithful “That we are generous with our gifts of time, talent and treasure when it’s not always convenient for us.” Next Week’s Reading – 30th November, 2014. First Sunday of Advent – Year B Reading 1 Gospel IS 63:16B-17, 19B: 64:2-7 You, LORD, are our father, our redeemer you are named forever. Why do you let us wander, O LORD, from your ways, and harden our hearts so that we fear you not? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage. Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, with the mountains quaking before you, while you wrought awesome deeds we could not hope for, such as they had not heard of from of old. No ear has ever heard, no eye ever seen, any God but you doing such deeds for those who wait for him. Would that you might meet us doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways! Behold, you are angry, and we are sinful; all of us have become like unclean people, all our good deeds are like polluted rags; we have all withered like leaves, and our guilt carries us away like the wind. There is none who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to cling to you; for you have hidden your face from us and have delivered us up to our guilt. Yet, O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay and you the potter: we are all the work of your hands. MK 13:33-37 Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’” Responsorial Psalm PS 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19 R/ (4) Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved. Reading 2 1 COR 1:3-9 Brothers and sisters: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia PS 85:8 R. Alleluia, alleluia. Show us Lord, your love; and grant us your salvation. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Reflection Advent: a time of hope It is said that while there is life there is hope. This has an even deeper meaning in reverse: while there is hope there is life. Hope is strength. Hope sheds light into despairing hearts. It inspires the will to live. It is the doctor’s most powerful ally. It is a shield against defeat and failure. It revives ideals and renews dreams. As long as there is hope, no situation is impossible. Advent summons us to wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. In the final analysis, he is our hope. 29th & 30th November 2014 1st Sunday of Advent 6 PM Marlene Axiak Pat Marek Alina Kaminski Saila Kaminski Tenique Borg Charlie Grech 9AM Judy Leckie Margaret Vella Mario Vella Rotillo Llovido Imelda Dizon 10.30 A M Aurora Asuncion Richard Marshall Aurora Asuncion Janey Magtoto Brenda Shafton Mary Ancheta Owen D’Cruze Malcolm Gonsalves Christian Dizon Leanne Alderson No Roster No Roster No Roster Gwen Hammett Max Michel Anna Garfi Geraldine Holt Dudi Nicart Cherleen De Jesus David Hein Rosario De Jesus Emergencies Maria Mai Marc Dicconson COLLECTORS Arnel Abuan Naveen Andrade Jimmy Attard Leonard Attard George Borg Shavawn Borg Jarrod Borja Marleen Ciappara Ollie Farrugia Charlie Galea Frank Gatt Emmanuel Galea Teresita Komarow Ian Mc Donald Paul Riny Mario Vella Louis Manabat Marko Ajienu Kerwyn Alderson Leanne Alderson Sid Asuncion Marian Bernardo Teddy Bernardo Michael Utoasega SPECIAL MINISTERS OF COMMUNION Fr Noel Brady Marissa Dunn Henry Dunn Carmen Falzon Anna Garfi Martine Grech Gwen Hammett Geraldine Holt Margarita Iturra Noel Oliver Fr Noel Brady Andrew Cassar Rosario De Jesus Pauline Debrincat Marc Dicconson Karen D’Souza Rose Gaquit Rotillo Llovido Kathy Wale Dudi Nicart Fr Noel Brady Dcn F Ramirez Marian Bernardo Teddy Bernardo Owen D’Cruze Yvonne Du’Pratt Charles Gatt Kenneth Inot Mary Anne Lapid Lillian Libang Angelita Ramat Resy Lim Richard Marshall Yasna Matiajas Eddie Medilo Marissa Medilo Emergencies: Doris Oliver Kathy Phelan Jane Inot Nyanrob Mawn SACRISTY DUTY Fely Baltazar Dudi Nicart Tessie Villar & Kate Pedralvez COFFEE MAKERS Spira Attard John Borja Margaret Gray Anthony Scerri Paula Mobbs Reana Cazar Josephine Medilo Mary Ngoma Kate Pedralvez COFFEE CLEAN-UP Judy Ballos Martine Grech Fely Baltazar MASS OVERSEERS HOSPITALITY DATA PROJECTOR CHILDREN’S LITURGY PROCLAIMERS st 1 Response nd 2 Intercessions COUNTERS TH SUNDAY 30 NOVEMBER Terry Phelan Connie Attard Patricia Meyn Mario Debono Alfred Josep Thilim Pitigala Len & Helen Gatt Chris Magtalas Anna Wright Val Stockbridge Paula Mobbs Imelda Dizon CHURCH CLEANERS TH SATURDAY 29 NOVEMBER Sophia Au Gwen Hammett Joyce Zahra Amy Lee Tony Zahra Rosendo Melo Lily Cauchi Art Mendoza Mary Zahra Catherine Muscat Elizabeth Thompson Samantha Rosair Damilo Wico Albert Wico Special Needs Parishioners Roberto Bracco Renato Cazar Teresita Danga Angel De Jesus Ronnie Trance Laurie Vella Cristina Paulino Mariella, Pillar & Victor Vicmudo Jacqui & Wesley Yuan Volunteers Needed FLOWERS: No Flowers during Advent ALTAR LINEN: Helen Muscat PARISH OFFICE CLEANING : Joseph Anicete All young children are welcome to attend the Resurrection Playgroup.
