COYOTES CAPTURE SILVER MEDAL
South Central Coyotes Bantam team falls just short of
a Provincial title.
With over 60 AAA Bantam teams suiting up in
the province of Ontario, only 7 qualified to take
part in the week long All Ontario Bantam
Championship held April 1st to 6th at the
Coyote Den in Richmond Hill. Given little respect
heading in to the tournament, the host team
from South Central led by Head Coach Mike De
Pellegrin put on a terrific show of resilience and
teamwork throughout the six day Championship,
ultimately ending up as the 2013 All Ontario
Bantam Finalists.
Opening Round Robin play, the Coyotes jumped
out to an early 2-0 lead on the NOHA Champion
Soo Greyhounds but could not hold on to the
lead, dropping the game by a 5-4 score. Later
on the same day, the Coyotes got back to even
ground after a 4-0 shutout victory over the
Thunder Bay Kings, Champions of the HNO.
Day 2 saw the Coyotes clash with the Alliance
Champions from London and after again gaining
a 2-0 lead on their opposition, the Coyotes had
to settle for a 2-2 tie with the Jr Knights.

Heading off to Day 3 in need of some more
points, the Coyotes let yet another lead slip
away against the OMHA Champion Southern
Tier Admirals before rebounding with a 3-2
come from behind victory over the OEMHL
Champion Ottawa Valley Titans. That set up an
important final round robin game against the
undefeated Toronto Marlboros and the Coyotes
came through in the clutch winning an exciting
game by a 2-1 score, securing their spot in the
Semi-Finals.
Facing the Admirals for a second time and
trailing 2-0 with just 10 minutes left to play, the
Coyotes scored three times in a little over 3
minutes to win the hockey game 3-2 and head
to the All Ontario Gold Medal Final. In front of a
packed Coyote Den, the Coyotes would jump
out to an early lead in the Championship game
but were unable to hold off the impressive
Marlies attack the rest of the way as a last
minute empty net goal sealed away a 7-4 victory
for the GTHL Champions.

Marcus Crawford - Saginaw Spirit
highly skilled offensive defensemen. He has the
ability to do a lot of things that most
defensemen at his age can't do. He has great
puck skills and does a great job on the offensive
end of his game. He has a very good shot from
the point - it's accurate, he gets it off very
quickly and rarely does he have it blocked.
Marcus doesn't engage physically very often he
prefers to stay on the right side of the puck and
wait for a player to bobble it and then he jumps
on puck. He is going to make a very good
offensive defensemen.”
“James is a big defender with tremendous
upside. James is a highly competitive
defenceman with great instincts in all three
zones. He moves the puck quickly and
effectively and also does a great job in the
defensive zone. We feel he has a lot of untapped
offensive potential as well. He is a product of
the South Central Coyotes organization and the
excellent coaching of Russ Herrington.”
JAKE SMITH
Leading scorer Jake Smith was the third and
final Coyote selected in this year’s OHL Priority
Selection Draft as the Mississauga Steelheads
selected the speedy right winger in the 11th
round, 204th overall. Smith, one of the best goal
scorers in the 97 age group, was second in the
ETA in goals and finished 4th in scoring on his
way to amassing 36 goals and 32 assists for 68
points while playing in all 64 games this season.

MARCUS CRAWFORD
Congratulations to Minor Midget Team Captain
Marcus Crawford who was drafted by the
Saginaw Spirit in the 3rd round, 44th overall, in
the 2013 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Crawford,
the top point getter among ETA Defencemen,
scored 11 goals and added 25 assists for 36
points in just 49 games this season. Invited to
participate in the OHL Combine as well as the
OMHA Gold Cup Under16 Program of
Excellence, Crawford becomes the highest pick
in the Coyotes history. Here is what OHL Central
Scouting had to say about Marcus: “Marcus is a
Minor Midget squad selected in the OHL Draft
when the Soo Greyhounds selected him in the
6th round, 111th overall.
A big, tough
defenceman with offensive upside, Thomson had
3 goals, 8 assists and 11 points in 62 games this
season. Here is what Soo GM Kyle Dubas had to

Coyote Nation Mourns Tragic Death of Alumnus
and His Family
The South Central Coyotes Hockey
Club has been deeply saddened
by the sudden passing of alumnus
Robert Dunsmuir, along with
brother Cameron and parents
Kevin and Jennifer. On Friday,
March 29th, a deadly fire broke out
at the Dunsmuir home in East
Gwillimbury just after 5am. Despite
valiant attempts from fire and
police, there were no survivors.
Robert played six years for the
Coyotes from 2004 to 2010 for
coaches Mike De Pellegrin, Mark
Thordarson, and Jeff Rumble.
Father Kevin served as a dedicated
volunteer and ambassador for the
organization.
