TUESDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2014 MARKET REPORT
A much improved entry and trade in the sheep department this week with 901 sheep sold on
the day with 666 lambs averaging over £74. 235 cull ewes sold very well again topping at £122.
Clean cattle were again an excellent trade with steers and heifers selling better this week. More
bulls and cull cows are needed.
16 steers averaged 205.76ppk and topped at 267.50ppk (£1524)
16 young bulls averaged 164.00ppk and topped at 222.50ppk (£1515)
22 heifers averaged 234.15ppk and topped at 265.50ppk (£1627)
4 OTM cattle topped at 129.50ppk (£912)
666 lambs averaged 164.84ppk and topped at £98 (208ppk)
235 cull ewes averaged £65.89 and topped at £122

16 YOUNG BULLS AV. 164.00ppk (£1048)
A better entry of young bulls however more are still needed. The top price per kilo was for a 17
month old BA x from AW Hardwick and Sons of Snainton weighing 680kgs and selling for
222.50ppk (£1513) to Cleveland Meats Co of Stockton on Tees. Another two from the same
home reached £1434 and £1390. The top price per head was for a Sim from SF Stubbing’s of
Sledmere weighing 835kgs and selling for £1515 (181.5ppk) to Cleveland Meats Co. Another
two sold for £1398 and £1393. Lim x from DJ Windress topped at 192.5ppk.
16 STEER AV. 205.76ppk (£1334)
A better entry of steers with some excellent quality cattle on show. The top price per kilo and
per head was for a lim x from JR Gardiner Ltd of Carnaby weighing 570kgs and selling for
267.5ppk (£1524) to Greystone’s Ltd. Other steers selling well were lim x from DR Jackson and
Sons which reached 237.5ppk (£1436). Lim x from DW Mook topped at 241.5ppk and 236.5ppk.
BA x from D Stainthorpe sold to 246.5ppk (£1479). Cha and BB x from P Raines and Son
topped at 218.5ppk and £1519.

22 HEIFERS AV. 234.15ppk (£1356)
Another excellent show of clean heifers however with Christmas orders beginning to come in
more heifers are needed next week. The top price per kilo was for a lim x and BB x from GI
Marwood of Harome weighing 575kgs and 555kgs and both selling for 265.5ppk (£1526 and
£1473) to Chris Hodgson for and on behalf of D Cammish of Driffield. Another two from the
same home sold for 260.5ppk (£1576) and 256.5ppk (£1526). The top price per head was for a
BB x from J & R Waind of Brawby weighing 620kgs and selling for 262.5ppk (£1627). Three
more from Brawby sold for 257.5ppk (£1557), 262.5ppk (£1561) and 252.5ppk (£1540). Heifers
from AW Hardwick and Sons topped at 256.5ppk. Lim x from JR Gardiner Ltd reached
249.5ppk. Lim x from DR Jackson and Sons sold for 243.5ppk. Smart lim x from TA Robson and
Son topped at 249.5ppk.
4 OTM CATTLE AV. £662
Fewer cows forward and more needed next week please. The top price cow on the day was for
a 151 month old BB x from M Blacklock of Danby weighing 705kgs and selling for 129.5ppk
(£912).
666 LAMBS AV. 164.84ppk (£74)
As the national trade for lambs begins to improve all weights and breeds were a better trade
today. However please ensure lambs are fit to ensure the best prices are achieved. The top
price per kilo was for a pen of ten from MA Hammond of Ebberston weighing 37kgs and selling
for 208ppk (£77) to R Agar Butchers. 40kgs from the same home sold for £76.50. The top price
per head was for a pen of five 51kgs from S Warriner of Pickering which reached £98. 50kgs
from the same home sold for £95. Also selling well were Texel x from DT Sowersby of Etton
which topped at £91.50 for 48kgs. 43kgs sold for £82 and 44kgs to £85.
235 CULL EWES AV. £65.89
Another excellent trade for cull ewes with more certainly needed next week please. The top
price per head was for a pen of four Texel x from S Warriner which topped at £122. Suffolk x
from the same home sold for £117. Texel x from AM & SM Avison reached £115. Texel x from
M & K Preston sold to £120. Suffolk x from JS and B Pease reached £116. Mule ewes from JC
Malthouse topped at £84.
