M USIC N OTES
Today men from the choir will sing the Kyrie and Agnus Dei “Rex splendens ”
from the Gr aduale Romanum, a book of chants for the litur gy. This volume was
compiled by the monks of Solesmes Abbey in France.
During Communion, the choir will sing “A Song to the Lamb ” by Calvin
Hampton (1938-1984). Hampton was organist of Calvary Episcopal Chur ch in
New York City for many years. He was k nown for a s eries of or gan r ecitals he
founded which occurred on Friday evenings at midnight. Today the choir will sing
a joyful anthem of his, the text of which comes from R evelation.
The organ piece after High Mass is a setting of the Te Deum by Jean Langlais
(1907- 1991). Te Deum is an ancient hymn of praise; the English translation can
be found in the front of the hymnal at S282. In the beginning Langlais presents
the original melody in slow octaves, followed by cr ashing, dr amatic harmonies.

We acclaim you holy Lord, glorious in power. Your mighty works reveal your

Any adults who would like to be confirmed in The Episcopal Church, thereby
officially becoming Episcopalian, should notify Father Bates as soon as possible .
Confirmation will take place at our Cathedral on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 3:00
p.m. Confirmation preparation classes will be scheduled as needed.
COAT DONATIONS
In addition to the food pantry at Grace Church in Newark, we also have a modest
clothing closet. With the cold weather upon us, we welcome any donations of
winter coats. Please ensure that the coats are clean and in good condition. Contact
Raul Ausa or Father Bates for more information.

ADULT FORMATION: LECTIO DIVINA
Father Bates leads parishioners in the meditative and prayerful form of scripture
reflection on Sunday’s gospel traditionally called Lectio Divina at 9:00 a.m. in the
All Saints Chapel.
MUSIC AT MIDDAY
The Music at Midday series continues on Tuesday, November 1 8 at 12:30 p.m. with
a classical guitar recital by João Kouyoumdjian, our Artist in Residence. These 30minute recitals will occur every Tuesday through December 23.
THE PRESIDING BISHOP TO VISIT GRACE CHURCH IN NEWARK
Mark your calendars for Trinity Sunday, May 31, 2015, when the Presiding Bishop
and Primate of The Episcopal Church The Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts
Schori will visit Grace Church in Newark. This is a s pecial honor for our parish, as
she has only visited our diocese a few times in her nine -year term.

continue on Saturday, December 6 at 9:30 a.m.
