All In One Family! Be inspired! Anne Abbadangelo is in her 80’s and is still working part-time a few days a week for the Village of Westbury. She swims at the Mid-Island Y JCC three to five times a week and usually comes right from work to exercise in the pool. “The Y is a godsend! I am so happy that the Y is here for me! I spend an hour in the water and feel so much better when I come out of the pool.” Anne says it’s not just the physical exercise that makes her feel good, “I have my pool friends who make me feel good too. They watch out for me, help me in the locker room if needed — it’s a community.” Anne’s daughter, Linda, works full time, comes after work several days a week and can be found in the fitness center using the cardio machines. “It’s such a warm and embracing environment for my whole family,” says Linda. Anne’s granddaughter Stacy is raising her daughter Brooklyn, 7 years old, in Plainview as well. Brooklyn attends our Second Home Day Care. Stacy is thrilled that when she or her mom, Linda, pick Brooklyn up after work, she’s happy, well cared for and homework is done. “The day care staff is amazing and ALL the JCC staff is friendly and warm. Even the security guard, Jason, greets us with a big smile and “hello” and asks how we are. Andrew at the Kosher Café knows our whole family by name!” Brooklyn also loves her hip hop class and has made many friends in the aftercare program. Family Workshop Stacy has connected with the moms of Brooklyn’s friends and looks forward to her occasional “girls nights out!” The JCC is here for everyone — we have four generations, all active users and all an integral part of the Mid-Island Y JCC in different ways! Parking Lot Safety For your safety and the safety of all of our members, please be mindful of the one-way directional signs in our parking lot. Jaffa's Ajami neighborhood is a melting pot where Jews, Muslims, and Christian's mingle in one of the poorest sectors of the city. Yaron Shani and Scandar Copti’s Ajami gives voice to a cross-section of the neighborhood’s inhabitants: a young Israeli (Shahir Kabaha) fighting a criminal vendetta against his family, a Palestinian refugee (Ibrahim Frege) working illegally to finance a life-saving surgery, a Jewish police detective (Eran Naim) obsessed with finding his missing brother, and an affluent Palestinian (Scandar Copti) dreaming of a positive future with his Jewish girlfriend. But their intersecting stories lead to a dramatic collision of different worlds and the tragic consequences of enemies living as neighbors.
