If you have ideas to share or want more information, email [email protected]. Screen Shots. Kids love to capture cool graphics or other images on their mobile devices or computers. One way they can do so is by taking a screen shot. Parents may also want to take a screen shot to capture an image, or to document a conversation or text message. Here is how to take a screen shot on various devices: ○ ○ ○ ○ iOS (including iPhone and iPad): hold down at once the Home and On/Off button. The image is captured in the Camera Roll or photo app. Android: hold down at once the Volume Down and Power buttons for 1-2 seconds. The image is captured in the Gallery or Photos app. Mac: hold down at once Command and Shift and press the #/3 key. The entire screen is saved as a file on the desktop. Windows: press the PrtSc/SysRq key. Windows captures the screen and copies it to the (invisible) clipboard, then you can paste as needed. Communication is one of the most important aspects of parenting in the digital age. Remember to speak with your children about safe, appropriate and responsible use of technology. Parent & Teacher Training For the BHCSD Interview Committee Each year, the Byram Hills Central School District establishes interview teams for the hiring of teachers and administrators. The District has been very successful in hiring and retaining excellent teachers and administrators as a result of teacher and parent committee participation. Jen Lamia, Assistant to the Superintendent for Human Resources, will be offering two opportunities for parents and teachers to attend a training session in order to be part of a hiring committee in the future. If interested, please e-mail Mary Jones at [email protected]. Session 1: Was held on Thursday, November 20th Session 2: Monday, December 1st from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the District Office Boardroom. Parent Pick-Up Process In an effort to ensure that our parent pick-up process is both efficient and safe for our students, we are requesting that all notes are filled out completely and legibly and include the name of the person picking up your child as opposed to their role (i.e. mom, babysitter, grandparent). Additionally, when a parent or designated friend is picking up a student, all names need to be printed clearly on the sign out sheet for our staff. This is our permanent documentation that your child is being released to the correct adult, and we are requesting your attention to this important matter. Thank you. V.I.P. The Byram Hills PTSA is proud to announce “The Gift of Giving” Monday, December 15, 2014 3:30pm - 4:30pm in the Wampus Cafetorium Parents and children will come together on December 15th to donate and wrap gifts for the children (mainly teenagers) at The Pleasantville Cottage School (PCS), a not-for-profit therapeutic residential treatment center for abandoned and neglected children. These children have had trying lives, and the holidays can be particularly difficult for them. Please help us put a smile on the faces of the 320 kids who reside at PCS. It’s easy. All you have to do is: ● Buy some gifts, wrapping paper and tape and come to Wampus on Dec.15th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. ● If you cannot attend, drop off your unwrapped gifts at Wampus the week before the event. ● All the kids in attendance will wrap the gifts together and give them to Phina Geiger, the director of Volunteer Services for PCS. The theme for this year is CLOTHING & HOME GOODS. There are 2 to 3 kids (mainly 13-17 year olds) per room at PCS, and they are limited as to what clothing, bedding, winter gear and toiletries they have. They only have the basics...a flimsy pillow, white sheets and a very thin blanket. We are trying to give these needy youngsters items to make their space feel a little more personal and fun. Ideas include: • Hoodies for either gender (adult sizes L - XXL) • Gloves, hats, scarves & fun socks • Comforter Sets, Blankets, & Sheets (all beds are twin size) • Pajamas and slippers (adult sizes L - XXL) • Stuffed animals • Jewelry (hoop or stud earrings, bangle bracelets) • Art supplies (especially pads & colored pencils) • Nail polish, mascara, lip gloss & eye shadow for girls • Body lotion and body mist for girls • Any Axe product for guys (no aerosol cans) • Board games, basketballs & footballs • Decorative wall posters, peel and stick wall decals • Journals or diaries • Gift Cards to Target, GameStop, etc. PLEASE NOTE: No gifts of any kind containing glass (no picture frames, no perfume bottles, etc.) Please remember that the kids at the Cottage School are mainly TEENAGERS from the inner city. Be sure to keep this in mind when choosing your gifts. THANK YOU for your support!!! If you have any questions, please e-mail Robyn Herman [email protected] or Stefanie Glusky [email protected]
