The end of a school year brings with it many conflicting emotions.
Excitement at the thought of school, holidays, Christmas and
new journeys into new schools.
Busyness and tiredness as teachers work on reports, tidying
classrooms, swimming carnivals, graduations, Christmas concerts, returning resources…….
Sadness as we say good bye to people who have made our
worlds places of joy and wonder.
Happiness as we take time to enjoy each other and share in
the excitement of the Christmas period.
Affirmation as we take the time to look back all that we have
achieved and how far we have come since the beginning of
the school year.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Leadership is an important part of a child’s learning
experiences at school. With the changes to our school as a
result of the Year 6 and Year 7 transition into the High School
context we have an opportunity to refine our student
leadership program to best meet the needs of our emerging
student leaders.
In 2015 we will be introducing a program of Student
Leadership Teams. The aim of the Student Leadership Team
program will be to give all students the opportunity to
experience leadership in a team context. In this team all
students will be expected, and supported, to demonstrate
leadership in a variety of ways:

Sunday 7:00am, Mossman
So as we go through the next couple of weeks lets please…
Welcome everything that is happening and participate to the
max...
Be patients with each other….
Thank each other….
Enjoy each other….
Support each other….
Be open to the changes that this
time of year brings to each and
everyone of us.
It is an oldie but a goodie—
THERE IS A REASON FOR THE SEASON OF CHRISTMAS…….
THE BIRTH OF JESUS.

Leading students in school sporting events.
Each term the teacher will work with the students to identify
the student leadership team. This team will then work under
the supervision of the class teacher, Principal and APRE as
they undertake each of the tasks mentioned.
The
major
change will be that there will no longer be school captains for
the whole year, rather the students will all have the opportunity to explore and
develop their leadership capacities
throughout the year.

REPORT CARDS
STAFFING
Over the past month our teachers have been working
with children to complete assessments so that they
are able to prepare a report for parents on the overall
learning achieved by your child during semester 2.
The purpose of the Report Card is to inform you, the
child’s first educators, of your child’s learning in the
following areas:
1. Their own faith and the teaching of the Catholic
Church.
2. Themselves as life long
learners.
3. Their academic learning as
describe in the Australian
Curriculum.

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter
we still have one teaching contract
position to fill.
We are currently
interviewing candidates with the intent
of filling the position by early next week.
As soon as we have contracts signed and
approved we will be notifying parents of
teacher allocations for 2015. On
Wednesday of the last week of term we
will be conducting a transition day where
students will get to visit their new
classrooms and be with their new
teachers (where possible).
Thankyou to the wonderful parent
and children helpers who turned
up on Sunday morning to beautify
our School grounds. What an
amazing job you have done.

This week at Outside School Hours Care….
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree
The children, with assistance from Ms Caitlin, have started transforming our wall display into a Christmas tree. Each
child will be given the opportunity to create decorations to display on the tree. We will watch it “grow” as we get closer to Christmas J
Afternoon Cool Off
With the weather warming up, we have been using the hose for the children to cool down under. We plan on continuing
this until the end of term. If children could pack a spare set of clothes in their bag to use when they are booked in at
OSHC that would be greatly appreciated J
Group Games
Children have enjoyed many active group games while at OSHC in the afternoon. Dodgeball, Brandy on the junior playground and Red, Red Rover have been their favourites over the term.
Preps for 2015
Children enrolled in Prep in 2015 will be able to attend our Outside School Hours Care service from Tuesday, 27 th January when school resumes. They will be able to attend Vacation Care from the Easter holiday break. Any queries
please email or call the service.
