We must not be unconcerned about the gifts God has
given us; in fact, we need to use those gifts to build the
Kingdom of God. And we certainly cannot show a lack
of care for those in need. Jesus has made this point
throughout His ministry. The cost of indifference is as
great as that of openly mistreating others. Even the
well known author and playwright George Bernard
Shaw once said, “The worst sin toward our fellow
creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to
them: that is the essence of inhumanity.”

JUSTFAITH - SANCTITY OF ALL LIFE
The Catholic Church teaches that, as a gift from God,
every human life is sacred from conception to natural
death. This principle of the worth and dignity of all
human life is at the core of Catholic social teaching.
The JustFaith Ministries Sanctity of ALL Life module
engages this teaching and offers extensive action
ideas and activities for all of the life issues, including
abortion, in vitro fertilization, euthanasia and the death
penalty.
We are looking to begin this program in January. This
program requires a six week commitment. If you are

They would love to have some bilingual (Spanish)
volunteers for intake, but it's not necessary to speak
Spanish. They especially need help on Tuesday,
December 2nd. Order filling will be the second week
of December. Dates and times will vary according to
the number of applicants. Toy pick up dates will be:

Thank you so very much for your contributions of
volunteers (and the proceeds of your bake sale) to our
Wednesday Community Meal.
With your partnership, we passed the “Feeding 5000”
milestone on October 1, just before our 3rd anniversary
on October 5. We have served a total of 5770 meals thus
far this year, and because of your help, we hope to serve
many more!

Due to the holiday, Lord of Love is short on volunteers for
their community meal on Wednesday, November 26.

GENEROSITY
The word generosity comes from the Latin word "birth"
and etymologically means "someone of noble birth." This
may unintentionally give out the involvement of our own
wealth to other people. Now, that's not all bad, but what
we need to do is move beyond generosity, as if we give
what is rightfully ours from birth or what we have earned.
What we need to do is go beyond generosity and toward
stewardship—a belief that everything belongs to God, no
matter how much we have earned, and we are stewards
who represent God.

JESSE TREE COLLECTION
This Advent we will be having our Jesse Tree collections,
as usual, to help those in need in our community this
Christmas. Our Jesse Tree collections begin next
weekend, November 29 & 30 with toys. The toys will be
given to families in need this Christmas and to Heart-NHand’s Gifts from the Heart program. We are in special
need of gifts for the 10-12 age range and teenagers.
Some ideas would be: (for 10-12) makeup kits, craft kits,
robotics, Legos, remote control toys, speakers, head
phones, (for teens) $10 gift cards for Target/Walmart/etc.,
earbuds, lip balm. Also, on the following Monday at 2pm
we will be moving the donations out of the church. Please
stop by and help if you are available. Thank you!

years old. Rafael is now 15 years old and cancer
free, thanks to patient care and funding for drug

ADULT FAITH FORMATION
REFLECTION ON THE FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING, LAST SUNDAY OF YEAR A
Today is the last Sunday of Liturgical Year A. The final
Sunday of Ordinary time celebrates the Solemnity of
Christ the King. For several weeks we have been
listening to passages from Matthew which call us to
readiness and alertness in view of Jesus’ final coming
and ensuing judgment. Today, Matthew’s gospel
reading from chapter 25 makes specific the basis for
that final judgment.
The first reading from Ezekiel articulates how deeply
committed God, our shepherd, is to all creation, caring
in a special way for the sick, the lost, the strayed, the
scattered and the injured. While we ourselves are often
the sheep in need of God’s care, God invites us to be
shepherds who reach out to protect and care for the
sheep. God so cares for and identifies with the sheep
that caring for anyone in need is showing care and
concern for God. Ezekiel claims that we will be judged
on such a lifestyle.
Those paying attention to Jesus example and teaching
will not be surprised by the coming judgment. God,
through Jesus, manifests all that a good shepherd does
for the sheep. Psalm 23 reveals our God as one who
continually guides, cares, feeds, welcomes, hosts and
shepherds us. With the psalmist we are called to
proclaim that “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing
I shall want.” Jesus came to concretize God’s love for
us, calling us to do for one another what God continues
to do for us.
Final judgment will separate sheep from goats based on
care, concern, compassion and kindness towards
anyone in need, most especially the weak and
powerless. In so doing we are acknowledging and
caring for Christ, who intimately and deeply identifies
with all in need. The king’s words “Come” or “Depart”
reflect the lifestyle and choices that others have made
throughout their lives. Ultimately, we choose, through
our everyday actions toward others, what our final
destiny will be.
Going to church, praying, and devotion to God, while
important, is not the basis for final judgment according
to Matthew. Rather welcoming
hospitality
of
care
and
concern for the least of our
brothers and sisters is the true
proof of our lived spirituality.
If our spirituality does not flow
out into such loving care and
concern for others, then it is
for naught.
Paul’s first letter to the
Corinthians boldly claims that
through Christ’s passion, death and resurrection we
have all been given new life. We are called to share in
Christ’s life-giving activity by living the Jesus lifestyle.
Love of others is love of God. In so doing, we partner
with Jesus in bringing about the fulfillment of all
creation, and the eternal establishment of God’s forever
reign, “so that God may be all in all.”
The last Sunday of the Liturgical year is an excellent
time to assess how faithful we have been to Christ’s call
to love as deeply and as intimately as we have been
loved. Take time this week to reflect on how you have
shown care and concern for those in need this past
year. If you have responded with love and compassion
to other this past year, then recommit yourself to
continue the Jesus life style. If you have not done so
well this past year, resolve to do something concrete
and specific for others in need. Make a list of possible
concrete actions that you can follow through on whether
it be in your family, church, community or city.
The beginning of another new year of grace next
Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent, is the ideal
opportunity to resolve to do for others what God
continually does for us. This Advent, how will you show
care and concern for all in need? Take time to love
others as intimately and as caring as God loves and
cares for us.

BIBLE STUDY AND SUNDAY READINGS
Catholics are mostly exposed to the Bible through the
Sunday Lectionary Readings. In order to help us all
enter into the Bible through the Sunday readings, we are
offering study sessions that will provide an opportunity to
read, to study background to the readings, and to reflect
on how to apply the readings to our lives. We will gather
on November 23rd, December 7th and December
21st at 10:30am. All are welcome. Bring a Bible and a

December 7th is our service to the community meeting.
We will be making stockings for the homeless and we
need for everyone to help bring gifts to stuff the
stockings. Small toiletries like razors, soap, deodorant,
wash cloths, hand and foot warmers, snacks like beef
jerky, cheese/peanut butter crackers, canned soups or
meat like Vienna sausages or tuna and wooden
matches. All gifts will be greatly appreciated. We will
also be making candles for the homeless and baking
Christmas cookies for them.

Your next meeting will be December 10th, 7-8:30pm in
the Parish Hall.
FORM FOR COMMUNICATION WITH MINORS
Parents and guardians must now sign a form giving
permission for St. Sabina staff, specifically the Youth
Director, Kirstie Roberts to respond to text messages,
emails and phone calls from the youth of the parish.

with the PSR registrations and in the Youth Office.

KIDS LITURGY
Children from the Parish School of Religion will be sharing
their gifts within the liturgy once a month. If your child
would like to be a lector, gift bearer, usher or greeter,
please visit the Youth Office and fill out a sign up form.
Our next Sunday will be January 18th.
CIRCLE OF GRACE
Our parish is dedicated to protecting our children and
teaching them about dangerous situations and how to ask
for help. To further that goal, we are happy to comply
with the Diocesan requirement to offer the Circle of Grace
training in our classrooms. We have a trained instructor
from our parish who will present lessons to each grade of
PSR on a schedule of Sundays this fall. If parents do not
wish for their child to receive this training they may fill out
an “Opt Out” form. A letter was mailed to each family
outlining the program and it included a copy of the Opt
Out form as well as the schedule of training for each
grade.
All volunteers with youth and children must attend
one Protecting God’s Children workshop, submit to a
background check and sign the policy on Ethics and
Integrity in Ministry, (EIM).

The Vocations Office has wonderful news-we now have
33 young men studying for the priesthood at five different
seminaries around the country and in Rome. This is a
great blessing for our diocese and a great challenge for
us financially. The average cost per seminarian per year
is over $30,000 for tuition and professional training, and
we need your help, your prayers and your generosity to
maintain the momentum. We are blessed to have 9 men
being ordained to the priesthood this spring and more
young men are on the way! So our future, in God’s grace
and in the Holy Spirit’s care, is very bright. Please help us
to support our seminarians.

Our Wellness Center is hosting a dinner for all Small
Christian Community members and their families on
Monday, December 1 from 5-7pm in the Wellness Center.
This will be an open house event, so if you can’t make it
at 5pm, please stop by as your schedule allows.
As one of the characteristics of Small Christian
Communities is reaching out to others in need, we are
asking each family attending the meal to bring a blanket,
or bath towels, or kitchen towels that can be given to
families in need this Christmas season. St. Sabina
collects toys, hats, gloves, and food in conjunction with
our Jesse Tree donations to help families with Christmas
gifts, but many times families are in great need of other
practical household items, as well, and we would like to
help in this way. Please plan on joining us for this special
SCC Dinner hosted by our Wellness Center. To help us in
our planning, please RSVP to the parish office at 816-331

attend.
FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Monday, December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate
Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is a holy day

DELEGATION TO CINQUERA, EL SALVADOR
We have set the dates of January 13-20, 2015 for our
trip to El Salvador. We are planning this trip in
conjunction with Our Lady of the Presentation Parish.
Those traveling will have the opportunity to visit the
communities of Cinquera and San Rafael Cedros,
along with other places of significance within El
Salvador. Many of you had the chance to hear Zulma
speak of her experience and her thankfulness of being
a scholarship student when she visited our parish in
September. We are pleased that Zulma will be our
translator for our delegation when we are in El
Salvador. If you are interested in traveling with this
delegation, please contact Kris as soon as possible.

GENEROSIDAD
La palabra generosidad viene de la palabra latina
“nacimiento” y en su etimología significa “alguien de
noble nacimiento.”
Esto puede, sin pretenderlo, llevar la implicación de
conceder parte de nuestra propia riqueza a otra gente.
Ahora, eso no es del todo malo, pero lo que nosotros
necesitamos hacer es movernos más allá de la
generosidad—como si nosotros regaláramos lo que por
derecho nos pertenece desde el nacimiento o lo que
hayamos conseguido.
Lo que nosotros necesitamos hacer es ir más allá de la
generosidad y llegar a la corresponsabilidad—a la
convicción de que todo pertenece a Dios, no importa
cuánto hayamos conseguido, y nosotros somos
administradores que representamos a Dios.
Una forma muy diferente de ver todas nuestras “cosas.”

LA COMUNIDAD
Compre sus postres para el Día del Pavo y ayude a una buena causa al
mismo tiempo!
Nuestros voluntarios que ayudan a preparar y servir las comidas para la
comunidad en la iglesia Señor del Amor harán una venta de pasteles y
galletas durante el fin de semana del 22 y 23 de Noviembre después de
cada Misa. Todos los ingresos se ocuparán para comprar comida y
suministros necesarios para las comidas para la comunidad.

COLECTA DEL ÁRBOL DE JESÉ
Este Adviento vamos a tener nuestras colectas del árbol de Jesé, como de costumbre, para
ayudar a los necesitados en nuestra comunidad en esta Navidad. Nuestras colectas del árbol
de Jesé comienzan el próximo fin de semana, 29 y 30 de Noviembre con los juguetes. Los
juguetes serán entregados a las familias necesitadas en esta Navidad y al programa de HeartN-Hand Regalos del Corazón. Necesitamos, especialmente, regalos para la edad de 10-12
años y adolescentes. Algunas ideas podrían ser: (para 10-12 años) kits de maquillaje, kits de
artesanía, robots, legos, juguetes de control remoto, audífonos, (para adolescentes) tarjetas
de regalo para Target/ Wal-Mart/etc. de $10, auriculares, esmalte de uñas, etc. El siguiente
lunes a las 2pm moveremos las donaciones de la iglesia. Por favor, pase a ayudar si está
