From Our Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Confirmaon students are guided well in the
act of “doing service” to “get Confirmed.” Once we
are confirmed in our faith, the rest of our life is
spent choosing to live out the gi.s and fruits of the
Spirit within us. Part of this absolute need for the Spirit within is to
do the tough work of living the Gospel. We are called to live out
the corporal and spiritual works of mercy on a daily basis. Make
sure you know these works so you can consciously choose to
purposefully carry them out in the world. Match up a corporal
work of mercy with a volunteer agency in your community.
Choose one on the list and acvely help. For the rest, be conscious
in all you do to allow the acons and love of Christ to be felt in
your acons and words.
Blessings upon all of you - Fr. Isidore

Contempla+ve Prayer Sessions
Advent is a me of joyful expectaon and waing for
our Savior to be born. Contemplave prayer is similar
in that we sit quietly and wait for God to work in us as
we meditate on our Lord’s scripture. Our prayer takes
the format of lec1o divina in which we read a brief
scriptural passage and meditate and pray upon it in
silence. The evening ends with a brief voluntary discussion of the group’s insights and quesons.
You are welcome to join us any Tuesday evening in
Advent at 7:00 p.m. in the STM Library.

The Year in Review
It has been a busy and fruiUul year of service to our
11,795 parishioners in more than 3,600 families and
to our community. Our accomplishments from a
pastoral perspecve have been significant. During
this past year our parish has celebrated 174 Bapsms,
35 Marriages, and 184 Confirmaons – all increases
over the previous year. We also performed 188 First
Communions and served over 1500 students in the
Religious Educaon program. To be sure, this acvity
is driven by the strong and dynamic faith of this
community. But it is also fueled by the economic
resources which we can make available.
Unfortunately our financial results were not very
strong. Here are some financial highlights of our year
ending June 30, 2014:
•
•
•
•
Collecons dropped 2.5% over the previous year
Expenses rose by less than 1%
We had our smallest surplus in 4 years
Our surplus is smaller than our weekly collecon
The trends since 2011 are:
• Total expenses grew less than 3%
• Contribuons barely increased 1%
• Approximately 20% of parish families pledged an
average of about $2000 each
• Approximately 20% of parish families provide about
HALF of total contribuons
The boDom line is that the parish financial status
needs to improve. We need a liDle help from a LOT
of people. A 5% increase over your current giving
level would make a real difference.
A blessed thank you to everyone who has already given to the 2014 Catholic Services Appeal. Our parish
goal is 100% parcipaon. Each and every person’s
gi. is important. For those who have not made a
pledge, please join us in supporng the vital programs
and services throughout the Diocese of Ausn from
which you and this parish benefit.
There are many ways to parcipate:
• Fill out the CSA card that was mailed to your home
and mail it to the Ausn Diocese.
• Fill out the CSA card mailed to your home and return it to the church or parish offices.
• Fill out a CSA card that is available in the church or
parish offices.
• Contribute online at: www.ausndiocese.org/csa.
With the holiday season rapidly approaching, many of
you may be considering addional year-end
charitable contribuons. Please consider today’s
message, and St. Thomas More Parish, when you are
making these decisions.
We realize that mes may be difficult for some of
you, but whatever your circumstance, we hope you
will give your contribuons some prayerful thought
this week. With your support and the gracious
blessings of the Lord on our faith community, we look
forward to sharing good news with you in our report
next year.
Thank you for honoring your stewardship with Christ.

Feast of Christ the King
This passage from MaChew might be considered a list
of essenal dues for a follower of Christ. The Gospel
points out that Jesus speaks about the “naons” who
gather, so we can see this as both an individual and
communal response to God. As individuals and as a
community, are we able to see Christ in the needy,
the least, the poorest and the forgoCen? Our yes, to
accepng the Kingdom depends on our willingness to
see and respond to them as we would to Christ
