Clarence’s 2014 Christmas Campaign

Clarence’s 2014 Christmas Campaign
Again this year, our Christmas campaign is dedicated to the angels in our lives, those who are no longer with us and
others we see every day.
“I met my angel several years ago. I don't think I really knew it at the time. He walked into my office at the
West Island Palliative Care Residence. He said simply "I want to help. Tell me what you want me to do. “His
name was Clarence and for the next 12 years he was by my side helping, as he said, in whatever manner he
could. Clarence took care of others. He was incredibly kind, patient and understanding. His smile was like a
bright light that warmed the heart. He rarely said no to any request. Clarence was everyone's angel at the
Residence. An angel on earth, and now an angel in heaven who watches over us.”
Clarence was part of a volunteer team made up of 250 individuals who, every year, give their time to help the Residence.
This collective effort represents close to 20,000 hours of work and 10 full time positions. We are very grateful for their
help.
Remember or honor your special angel by purchasing a Christmas ornament and contribute to a campaign that will
enable the West Island Palliative Care Residence to provide round-the-clock nursing care to the terminally ill patients.
Since opening 12 years ago, the Residence has cared for more than 2,700 patients and helped 10,000 family members
face the end of life with pain and symptom management, counseling services and emotional support.
Please support our 2014 Christmas Campaign by buying a personalized ornament to honor the memory of your angel.

Key statistics
We focus on life

We help families
We provide comfortable surroundings and support
services for families to manage a difficult time with
the peace of mind of knowing their family member
is as comfortable as possible, helping everyone
come to terms with what is occurring. We follow
families for a year with bereavement services.
19,037 Number of hours of work donated during
year by volunteers = 10 full time jobs.
We rely on community support
We are an independent, community based
organization not affiliated with any hospital or other
health institution. We are able to provide our
facilities and services without any charge to patients
thanks to the support of individuals and companies
in the community who contribute two-thirds of our
annual budget, the other one-third coming from the
Quebec government. The Residence needs to raise
$3 million each year. You can support our work by
making a donation.
